Duties

This position is located in the Office of Investigations: Demonstrate proficiency in the fields of accounting and auditing in order to facilitate accurate, complete, and meaningful submission of financial information. Analysis of data principally takes the form of a written report that provides a quantitative analysis of the data submitted in response to Commission questionnaires. Prepare all documentation related to the audit activity, including notification letters to the firms to be examined, audit worksheets, and reports of the results of audits. Review and evaluate financial data submitted by U.S. firms in connection with questionnaires issued by the Commission. Examine accounts for the purpose of ascertaining that reported data fairly present the financial position of the audited activity, and evaluate reliability of reported results. Identify essential information, trends, and outliers. Serves as advisor to Commissioners and the Commission's senior staff on the reliability and interpretation of data submitted by U.S. firms in connection with the statutory investigations conducted by the Office of Investigations; serves as the liaison with company officials and outside counsel for all questions and follow-ups regarding their reported financial data.

Qualifications and evaluation

Knowledge of the theory, concepts, and practices of accounting, financial reporting, cost accounting, and auditing (e.g. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS) along with knowledge of regulations, requirements, and practices to use conventional methods and techniques to perform assignments Skill and ability to produce clear, well-structured, analytically rigorous, and accurate written reports that synthesize and interpret complex financial data, present in-depth quantitative findings, and communicate key conclusions with accuracy and clarity. Demonstrated skill and ability to collect, verify, analyze, and interpret quantitative and qualitative data; identify trends, anomalies, and outliers; and distinguish essential from nonessential information to support accurate and well-reasoned findings and conclusions. Demonstrated skill in oral and written communication to interact effectively with external stakeholders such as outside counsel and company officials, as well as internal stakeholders at the team, management, and political appointee levels. BASIS OF RATING: The USA Hire Assessment includes a cut score based on the minimum level of required proficiency in these critical general competencies. You must meet or exceed the cut score to be considered. You will not be considered for the position if you score below the cut score or fail to complete the assessment.
