Job Description
The Role
We are seeking a results-driven Maintenance & Engineering Coordinator to lead performance improvement across Metal Assembly operations. This role will help move the organization from reactive problem solving to disciplined, data-driven maintenance and operational excellence.
The successful candidate will be a change leader who can standardize processes, identify gaps in maintenance performance, strengthen predictive maintenance practices, and partner with operations and skilled trades to improve equipment reliability, throughput, and overall plant performance.
What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)
- Fill in as a Group Leader across multiple shifts, based on business needs.
- Lead positive change across the department by building alignment across Maintenance, Operations, Engineering, Quality, and other cross-functional partners.
- Establish structure, governance, and accountability for maintenance processes, work practices, operating routines, and performance expectations.
- Present recommendations, performance gaps, improvement plans, and results clearly to multiple levels of leadership.
- Assess maintenance performance, identify gaps and recurring losses, and develop practical improvement plans.
- Advance predictive and proactive maintenance strategies to detect equipment issues before they affect production.
- Use data, downtime trends, reliability indicators, and equipment history to prioritize actions and eliminate chronic losses.
- Drive Operational Excellence through structured problem solving, continuous improvement, standard work, and accountability.
- Partner with production teams to improve equipment availability, line performance, and throughput.
- Drive TIP performance by translating priorities into clear actions, tracking progress, and escalating barriers when needed.
- Own additive technology activities and 3D printing initiatives, ensuring effective implementation, utilization, sustainment, and alignment with manufacturing needs.
- Deliver and track the expected return on investment for additive technology and Operational Excellence (OPEX) initiatives.
- Attend all applicable cost councils and use those forums to identify, prioritize, and advance cost-improvement opportunities.
- Improve preventive maintenance effectiveness, schedule compliance, response time, and maintenance quality.
- Facilitate root-cause analysis and ensure corrective actions are implemented, sustained, and verified.
- Support the development of team capability through coaching, communication, and consistent expectations.
- Promote a culture focused on safety, quality, reliability, ownership, and continuous improvement.
- Develop strong, professional relationships with equipment suppliers, service providers, and other maintenance vendors.
- Leverage vendor warranty processes to recover value, reduce maintenance costs, and ensure timely resolution of equipment issues.
- Identify equipment, process, and capability training needs, and coordinate with vendors and internal partners to close those gaps.
Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- 5+ years of experience in manufacturing maintenance, engineering, reliability, or operations leadership.
- Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering or business discipline or equivalent work experience.
- Ability to work an off shift when required and weekend work on occasion.
- Demonstrated ability to lead change and influence teams without relying solely on direct authority.
- Experience standardizing processes and implementing continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ability to analyze maintenance and production performance data and convert findings into action.
- Develop working knowledge of vision systems, robotics, bin-picking technology, and related automation applications.
- Demonstrate strong AI fluency and the ability to apply AI tools responsibly to improve maintenance analysis, problem solving, process standardization, and decision-making.
- Reverse-engineer high-cost parts and identify safe, reliable, and cost-effective alternatives to reduce spending associated with the 5000 account.
- Identify bottlenecks and develop practical technical and process solutions to improve flow, reliability, and throughput.
- Demonstrated ability to lead organizational change, create process structure, and deliver positive department-level results.
- Commitment to safe work practices and a high standard of operational discipline.
What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
- Experience in metal assembly, body shop, stamping, fabrication, or a similar manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of predictive maintenance methods, equipment condition monitoring, and reliability-centered practices.
- Experience with preventive maintenance optimization, downtime reduction, and maintenance planning.
- Familiarity with Operational Excellence systems, standard work, lean manufacturing, or structured problem solving.
- Experience tracking plant performance priorities, including TIP or similar business-performance processes.
