Senior Virtual Calibration Development Engineer

Work Classification:

Hybrid: The successful candidate is expected to report to Milford, MI three times per week, at minimum, or as dictated by the business.

The Role:

As a Virtual Calibration Development Engineer within GM’s Electrification Propulsion Integration organization, you will help build, integrate, validate, and deploy innovative lab- and simulation-based environments for Calibration Standard Work. Based at the Milford Proving Grounds, you will develop, integrate, validate, and deploy virtual calibration environments and simulation-based workflows while partnering across organizations to improve calibration execution for Production and Advanced Calibration teams. You will also support the integration and correlation of complementary lab, dyno, battery systems, Hardware-in-the-Loop, and charger integration environments as needed.

 

What You’ll Do (Responsibilities):

• Develop, integrate, validate, and deploy virtual calibration environments and simulation-based workflows for Calibration Standard Work.
• Develop and apply virtual modeling, simulation, and correlation methodologies to demonstrate and improve virtual calibration capability.
• Support the integration of complementary dyno, battery systems lab, Hardware-in-the-Loop, and charger integration environments, including plant-model integration and correlation activities.
• Coordinate cross-functional efforts to identify and resolve correlation gaps, lab issues, and virtual environment issues.
• Automate and script calibration procedures and data post-processing tasks while supporting the continuous improvement of the scripting and automation framework.
• Mentor Calibration Engineers and Technical Specialists on Road to Lab to Math environments through technical training and knowledge-sharing.
• Support Virtual Modeling and Virtual Integration teams and contribute to the safe, reliable deployment of new calibration environments.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):

• Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering.
• 5+ years of relevant engineering experience, preferably in controls, calibration, or modeling.
• Strong analytical problem-solving skills, including the ability to address unusual and difficult problems.
• Demonstrated success leading large and/or complex projects with high levels of ambiguity.
• Ability to collaborate effectively across organizations and contribute to the development, integration, validation, and deployment of lab- and simulation-based engineering environments.

 

What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):

• Master of Science degree in Engineering.
• 8+ years of relevant engineering experience, preferably in controls, calibration, or modeling.
• Proficiency with MATLAB and Simulink, plus familiarity with simulation tools such as GT-SUITE or AMESIM.
• Experience with embedded controls software and calibration tools such as INCA.
• Familiarity with automotive communication technologies including CAN, LIN, SPI, and Automotive Ethernet.
• Programming experience in C/C++ and Python, including scripting and automation for calibration or data processing.
• Comprehensive automotive systems knowledge, particularly hardware and software integration.
• Demonstrated success developing and deploying simulation methodologies, with experience in dyno or lab environments, co-simulation frameworks, or multiple Electrification controls functions.





This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the selected candidate is expected to report to a specific location at least 3 times a week {or other frequency dictated by their manager}.
