Who are we looking for?

Our US East Environmental business is looking for a Technical Director to join the team and make a lasting impact on GHD’s success in the environmental market. In this high-profile leadership role, you’ll drive complex projects and transformative programs, elevate technical excellence, and deliver innovative, multidisciplinary solutions that strengthen our market presence. You’ll champion safe and consistent project delivery, cultivate a strong pipeline of opportunities, mentor and inspire top talent, and help shape the future of our business through innovation, collaboration, and outstanding client outcomes.

Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:

  • Client & Customer Management: Manage key client and customer relationships. Likely to involve using account teams to maintain customer satisfaction and loyalty.
  • Client Issue Diagnosis: Conduct in-depth analysis of the operational information gathered through interviews and research to diagnose underlying client issues and problems and to inform the design of multiple solutions.
  • Environmental Risk Management: Direct the environmental risk management implementation within a function, aligning risk activities with environmental regulations, and the organization's sustainability initiatives.
  • Health, Safety, and Environment: Ensure that business activities and individuals (e.g., employees, contractors, and visitors) within the area of responsibility adhere to the organization's health, safety, and environment (HSE) policies, procedures, and mandatory instructions, to safeguard the environment, protect the well-being of individuals, and minimize business risk.
  • Personal Capability Building: Act as subject matter expert in an area of technology, policy, regulation, or operational management for the team and beyond in the function. Maintain external accreditations and in-depth understanding of current and emerging technologies, external regulation, and industry best practices through continuing professional development, attending conferences, and reading specialist media.
  • Project Management: Manage a portfolio of major projects in line with overall project management strategy.
  • Request for Bid Solicitation/Proposal/Tender Response: Gather information and resources and draft and complete proposals in response to the most-complex bid solicitations, request for proposal, and request for tender to create the best chance of being awarded the contract. May lead a team to develop tenders/proposals and fulfill all process requirements (in terms of deadlines, documentation, etc.) in response to bid solicitations, request for proposal, and request for tender.
  • Solutions Analysis: Develop innovative solutions by integrating and analyzing complex and diverse information sources.

What you’ll bring to the team:

  • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Geology, Environmental Science or other science related field of study
  • Professional Geologist (PG) license preferred
  • At least 20 years of experience in environmental consulting 
  • Experience working with municipalities a plus
  • Experience in coordinating and simultaneously managing multiple tasks while maintaining a high degree of attention to detail in a consulting environment 
  • Ability and willingness to travel for client meetings is required
