Our US West Roads team is looking for a Project Manager / Project Engineer – Transportation. This part-time, as-needed position will support the delivery of transportation, municipal infrastructure, and capital improvement projects. Working alongside project managers and multidisciplinary teams, you will provide experienced project engineering, design oversight, consultant coordination, project controls, public agency coordination, funding support, and construction-phase assistance. Hours will vary based on project needs.

In this role, you will provide flexible, senior-level support where it is needed most. Responsibilities may include:

  • Support project managers with the technical and day-to-day delivery of transportation, utility, and municipal capital improvement projects.

  • Oversee design development and review plans, specifications, estimates, reports, and other technical deliverables prepared by internal teams and consultants.

  • Coordinate roadway, drainage, traffic, utilities, survey, environmental, permitting, right-of-way, and other disciplines to support complete, coordinated, and constructible designs.

  • Facilitate design reviews, document decisions, track comments and action items, and help resolve technical, permitting, constructability, and delivery issues.

  • Support consultant procurement and contract administration, including scopes of work, requests for proposals, proposal evaluations, budgets, schedules, invoices, and deliverables.

  • Assist with project planning, cost estimates, grant applications, funding documentation, and reimbursement requirements for state and federally funded projects.

  • Coordinate with clients, public agencies, funding partners, utility owners, subconsultants, contractors, and community stakeholders.

  • Provide technical coordination and project support during planning, design, bidding, construction, and closeout.

What will help you succeed

  • Extensive experience delivering municipal transportation, public works, capital improvement, or related infrastructure projects.

  • Sound project engineering judgment and experience overseeing designs, coordinating consultants, and working across multidisciplinary teams.

  • Working knowledge of public agency project delivery, consultant contracts, grant-funded projects, procurement, bidding, and construction processes.

  • Ability to review technical deliverables for completeness, coordination, constructability, quality, and consistency with project requirements.

  • Strong organization, independent judgment, and follow-through, with the ability to manage multiple priorities with limited supervision.

  • Clear, practical communication and the ability to work effectively with clients, agencies, project teams, consultants, contractors, and community stakeholders.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering.

Qualifications

  • 15 or more years of relevant experience in engineering, project management, municipal infrastructure, public works, or construction.

  • Experience managing or supporting transportation and capital improvement projects for a public agency or engineering consultant.

  • Professional Engineering licensure is preferred but not required.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and common project collaboration tools. AutoCAD proficiency is not required because this role focuses on design oversight, review, and coordination rather than design production.

  • Availability to work part time on an as-needed basis, with hours varying based on project workload.

The salary range: $62.00-$105.00 per hour based on experience
