This position is part of the Agency Support Operations, Government Publishing Office in Washington, District of Columbia.

Duties

Performs property disposal functions involving receipt, inspection, temporary storage, reissue, sale, transfer, recycling, and final disposition of surplus/excess Government property. Maintains listings of returned assets and determines if spare or replacement equipment parts are in stock and should be included within disposals. Prepares reports identifying unserviceable property and recommends appropriate disposal methods in accordance with applicable regulations and environmental requirements. Maintains automated inventory disposal records and prepares statistical and financial reports documenting surplus property transactions and disposition activities. Identifies Government property through nomenclature, part numbers, serial numbers, and/or manufacturer data plates to ensure accurate accountability. Identifies hazardous materials and hazardous waste, ensuring proper segregation, labeling, storage, documentation, and timely disposal in accordance with environmental and safety regulations.

Qualifications and evaluation

Background Investigation for a Suitability: To ensure the accomplishment of its mission, the GPO requires every employee to be reliable and trustworthy; this position requires a background investigation for Suitability. To meet those standards, all selected applicants must undergo and successfully complete a background check for Suitability. This review could include fingerprints and credit checks, as well as a full field FBI background investigation and tax and bar checks for attorney applicants. The background investigation covers a period of seven to ten years depending on the nature of the position; this process may take 6 weeks or longer.
