We are looking for a skilled, driven Refrigeration & HVAC Technician II to join our Support Office team at Balls Food Stores. In this role, you'll serve as a key technical partner across all store locations-including Hen House, Price Chopper, SunFresh, and Payless-ensuring critical systems are running efficiently, safely, and consistently to support daily store operations.

This role is essential to the success of our stores-keeping refrigeration, HVAC, and equipment performing at a high level to protect product quality, minimize downtime, and create a seamless experience for both guests and teammates. Your work will have a direct impact on operational performance across multiple locations.

This is a critical, hands-on role for a technician who excels at diagnosing issues, delivering high-quality repairs, and keeping systems running reliably in a fast-paced, real-world environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintenance & Equipment Reliability: Perform maintenance and preventative maintenance on grocery store equipment across all areas of the store to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
  • Refrigeration & HVAC Service Execution & CMMS Utilization: Respond to internal service requests through the CMMS and perform maintenance and repairs on refrigeration and HVAC systems.
  • Troubleshooting & Issue Resolution: Identify and resolve mechanical and electrical issues by inspecting, testing, and diagnosing equipment across all operational areas of the store, including food preparation areas and building systems.
  • Regulatory Compliance & Safety: Perform all work in accordance with OSHA regulations and EPA standards, ensuring safe practices while working across various equipment environments and system types, including proper handling of refrigerants, tools, and equipment.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Utilize the CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) to receive, prioritize, update, and complete repair work orders, ensuring accurate documentation of all service activities
  • Accurately document work performed in the CMMS, including notes, parts used, labor time, and status updates
  • Respond to internal store service requests and deploy from the Support Office to store locations to assess and complete repairs across all equipment areas
  • Respond promptly to emergency maintenance calls to minimize operational disruption and product loss
  • Inspect, operate, and test equipment and systems located in sales floor areas, back rooms, mechanical spaces, and rooftops to diagnose mechanical and electrical issues
  • Troubleshoot and repair refrigeration, HVAC, and food preparation equipment throughout the store and facility
  • Repair or replace components such as compressors, motors, fans, belts, and controls
  • Monitor system performance, temperatures, and pressures to identify and resolve potential issues
  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance on grocery store equipment, refrigeration systems, and HVAC units across all operational areas
  • Clean evaporator coils, condenser coils, and refrigeration rack systems to maintain system efficiency
  • Operate forklifts, scissor lifts, and hand jacks as needed to access and complete maintenance and repairs in various equipment locations
  • Use hand and power tools safely and effectively to complete assigned work
  • Maintain accurate service logs, work orders, and basic computer-based documentation
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with store teammates, leadership, and vendors regarding service needs and repairs
  • Provide a professional, approachable, and service-oriented presence while working in store environments

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Required: 2+ years of working experience in facilities maintenance, refrigeration, HVAC, or related field
  • Required: EPA Section 608 Certification (Type II required; Universal preferred)
  • Required: Experience using a CMMS or work order management system
  • Required: High school diploma or GED
  • Required: Valid driver's license
  • Preferred: Trade school or technical certification in HVAC or refrigeration
