Duties
This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the DC Army National Guard. MILITARY REQUIREMENTS: You must meet the minimum military rank as specified in this announcement. Applicants applying to this position who exceed the maximum military grade listed on this job announcement MUST submit a statement in writing that they are willing to take an administrative reduction in grade to the advertised military grade on the job announcement for which applying. Applicants who exceed the military grade will NOT be placed into the technician position until they have been administratively reduced to the military grade on the job announcement. Please note that exceeding the maximum rank does not automatically qualify you for consideration. Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement. The National Guard's full-time support program requires that all military technicians are members of the National Guard and are appointed to full-time positions which correspond to their military assignments. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership. Minimum Military Rank: E5/SGT Maximum Military Rank: E6/SSG Other requirements: For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver's license for the state in which they live or are principally employed. For positions requiring a security clearance (Secret or Top Secret) the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within One (1) year of appointment. This position is located in a State ARNG Aviation Support Facility (AASF)/Aviation Classification Repair Activity Depot (AVCRAD)/Army Aviation Training Site (ATTS) Logistics Function. The purpose of this position is to serve as a Small Shop Chief (SSC) with the responsibility for the overall operations of a small shop. The position oversees and directs the work of WG-5378, Powered Support Systems Mechanics, who are assigned to the shop. The incumbent performs the full range of non-supervisory work of the shop. Duties: (1) Serves as a Small Shop Chief performing all of the following tasks: Plans and lays out work to be accomplished in the shop which is then completed by the individual and lower graded worker(s). Possesses the knowledge and skills found at the journeyman level as well as those required for planning, accomplishing and maintaining a functional shop maintenance program. Independently determines appropriate maintenance procedures such as how and when the work should be accomplished. Estimates manpower, equipment and material requirements. (2) Performs the same type and level of work as performed within the unit. (3) Implements safety regulatory requirements. Ensures that other workers in the shop wear appropriate safety equipment and follow pertinent safety precautions. (4) Participates in various types of readiness preparations, inspections, evaluations, and mobilization and command support exercises. Performs additional duties such as structural fire fighting, aircraft fire/crash/rescue duty, security guard, snow removal, munitions loading and handling, heavy equipment operation, maintenance of facilities and equipment. May serve as a member of a team to cope with natural disasters or civil emergencies. (5) Performs other duties as assigned. Work is reviewed for efficient and economical accomplishment within priorities and control received. Ability to provide technical guidance and assistance on unusual or controversial problems; and relies on the incumbent to control work operations and accomplish adequate quantity and quality of work.
