Beloit Health System is seeking a skilled and compassionate Echo Cardiovascular Technologist to join our growing Vascular Lab team. This role offers the opportunity to perform a wide range of advanced cardiac and vascular diagnostic studies while working closely with physicians and multidisciplinary care teams to deliver exceptional patient care.

The Echo Cardiovascular Technologist is responsible for performing comprehensive echocardiography and peripheral vascular ultrasound studies for both outpatient and inpatient populations. This includes routine and advanced procedures such as stress echocardiograms, transesophageal echocardiograms (TEE), and support for invasive cardiovascular procedures.

Working with a high degree of independence, the Echo Cardiovascular Technologist conducts professional-level assessments utilizing ultrasound and related diagnostic technologies to evaluate cardiac and vascular conditions. The technologist accurately acquires, analyzes, and documents diagnostic findings, including preliminary clinical impressions, in accordance with established departmental protocols and quality standards.

This is a full-performance role requiring advanced knowledge of cardiac and peripheral vascular anatomy, physiology, hemodynamics, and disease processes. The Echo Cardiovascular Technologist plays an integral role in delivering high-quality patient care and providing physicians with the diagnostic information necessary to support timely and effective treatment decisions.

In this role, the Echo Cardiovascular Technologist will:

  • Communicate effectively with patients and family members to enhance the patient experience, promote understanding of procedures and symptoms, and support positive healthcare outcomes.
  • Review patient medical records to obtain and verify pertinent clinical information, gather additional necessary data from patients, and ensure requisitions align with physician orders.
  • Respond to emergency diagnostic examinations throughout the hospital, including intensive care units, nursing units, emergency departments, cardiac catheterization labs, hybrid procedure suites, and operating rooms.
  • Apply EKG leads accurately for cardiac monitoring during diagnostic procedures and examinations.
  • Assess the hemodynamic significance of various cardiac disease processes using available imaging modalities in accordance with established departmental protocols.
  • Perform echocardiographic measurements and Doppler calculations, deriving patient-specific indices essential for accurate diagnostic interpretation.
  • Operate ultrasound equipment and assist registered nurses during stress echocardiography and dobutamine stress testing procedures.
  • Conduct diagnostic vascular studies in accordance with standardized laboratory protocols, modifying imaging techniques when necessary to achieve optimal diagnostic results.
  • Perform upper and lower extremity venous duplex examinations using Doppler ultrasound, color flow imaging, and compression techniques to evaluate for deep vein thrombosis, superficial thrombophlebitis, venous insufficiency, and to map superficial veins for size and depth when indicated.
  • Perform carotid duplex ultrasound examinations to assess blood flow dynamics and plaque characteristics within the carotid and vertebral arteries using real-time imaging, spectral Doppler analysis, and color flow imaging.
  • Identify pseudoaneurysms and arteriovenous fistulas through duplex ultrasound evaluation and, under physician direction, perform ultrasound-guided compression techniques to facilitate treatment.
  • Assist physicians with thrombin injection procedures for pseudoaneurysms, intraoperative vascular imaging, preparation of required equipment and supplies, and proper disposal of used materials while maintaining strict adherence to sterile technique and operating room protocols.

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum: Completion of a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CHAAHEP) approved ultrasound program, Diploma/associate degree in Biological Sciences, Radiology, Ultrasound, or relevant health sciences field. Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in Ultrasound, Radiology, Biological Sciences, or relevant health sciences field.
  • ARDMS required at time of hire, with echocardiography or vascular ultrasound (RCS, RDCS, RVT, or RVS) at time of hire and eligibility to receive the other.
  • Must be registered in both Echo and Vascular within one year of start date.
  • This position does have an on-call requirement with a 45-minute response time.
  • CPR within 3 months of hire.
