Summary

The Department of Veterans Affairs, Office of the Inspector General (OIG), is organized into six operational units with offices in more than 60 locations throughout the country. The Information Technology Specialist (DATAMGT), located in the office of Office of Data and Analytics is responsible for performing complex work in information technology including programming using statistical software, data analysis, data warehousing and project management.

Duties

As a/an Information Technology Specialist (DATAMGT) the following are the duties of this position at the GS-13 . If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position. Analyzing and defining data requirements and specifications, resolving the most complex data management and data analysis problems, and evaluating and providing recommendations on the adoption of new database technologies and architectures for the design and implementation of data mining, data warehousing, and related data storage and retrieval systems. Serves as an expert in the interpretation of policies, procedures, and guidelines governing the provision of database management and data analysis support throughout the OIG. Leads project teams in response to requests for data analysis support; plans and coordinates project design, development, and implementation including new data management schema, data structures, and access strategies in alignment with specific requests and overall OIG mission requirements. Works closely with VA and other governmental and private sector agencies to obtain databases and files for OIG use that will improve staff output, provide better product, and increase productivity within the OIG.

Requirements

The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. If qualified, you will be assigned to one of three quality level categories, A-Exceptionally Qualified, B-Highly Qualified, or C-Qualified, depending on your responses to the online questions, regarding your experience, education, and training related to this position. Your rating may be lowered if your responses to the online questions are not supported by the education and/or experience described in your application. Veterans' preference is applied after applicants are assessed. Preference-eligibles will be listed at the top of their assigned category and considered before non-preference-eligibles in that category. Qualified preference-eligibles with a compensable service-connected disability of 10% or more will be listed at the top of the highest category.
