Responsibilities
POSITION OVERVIEWÂ
Peraton is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to support the Fraud Prevention System 2 (FPS2) program at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). This role will lead data migration and deduplication workstreams, ensuring that legacy system data is accurately consolidated, cleansed, and harmonized into the target data platform.Â

KEY RESPONSIBILITIESÂ
- Design and execute end-to-end data migration pipelines to migrate legacy fraud-related data assets into the cloud data warehouse (Snowflake)Â
- Lead deduplication and record consolidation efforts across multiple CMS source systems, including provider, beneficiary, and case/referral recordsÂ
- Develop and maintain ETL/ELT workflows using modern tooling (e.g., DBT, Apache Airflow, SnapLogic) to support continuous data ingestion and transformationÂ
- Perform data profiling, quality analysis, and validation across source and target environments to ensure migration accuracy and completenessÂ
- Define and implement matching/resolution logic to identify and merge duplicate records across systems being consolidated Â
- Collaborate with CMS stakeholders, data architects, and fraud analysts to understand source system data models and define target state mappingsÂ
- Develop data lineage documentation and migration runbooks to support project governance and audit requirementsÂ
- Tune and optimize Snowflake objects (tables, views, tasks, pipes, clustering keys) for performance and cost efficiencyÂ
- Support data cutover planning and execution, including rollback procedures and validation checkpointsÂ
Qualifications
Minimum of 16 years with BS/BA; Minimum of 14 years with MS/MA; Minimum of 10 years with Ph.D.
- Demonstrated experience executing large-scale data migrations Â
- Proficiency in SQL and at least one scripting language (Python preferred) for pipeline development and automationÂ
- Hands-on experience with ETL/ELT tools such as DBT, Apache Airflow, Informatica, SSIS, or SnapLogicÂ
- Experience with data quality validation, reconciliation testing, and migration verification across complex, multi-source environmentsÂ
- Familiarity with CMS or federal government data environments, including relevant data governance and security requirementsÂ
- Active ability to obtain or maintain a Public Trust suitability determinationÂ

NICE-TO-HAVE QUALIFICATIONSÂ
- Direct experience on a CMSÂ programÂ
- Experience with deduplication or entity resolution techniquesÂ
- Knowledge of CMS claims, provider enrollment, or beneficiary data structuresÂ
- Experience with master data management (MDM) tools or frameworksÂ
- Familiarity with fraud, waste, and abuse (FWA) detection workflows and data modelsÂ
- Experience in Agile/Scrum delivery environments with tools like Jira and Confluence Â

Target Salary Range
$135,000 - $216,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
