Duties

Learn more about CBP's mission, core values and careers at https://www.cbp.gov/about This position is located in the Office of Laboratories and Scientific Services (LSS) within the Operations Support Office (OS), United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP), United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS). You will serve as a subject matter expert in digital forensics in a laboratory, using various software and hardware solutions to conduct advanced laboratory analysis on digital evidence, including portable and electronic media devices. This position starts at a salary of $106,437.00 (GS-13, Step 1) to $138,370.00 (GS-13, Step 10). Major Duties include: Conducting highly specialized computer and mobile forensic research in a forensically sound manner. Developing and implementing mobile device test plans for mobile forensic tool validation and verification. Preserving, authenticating and analyzing digital evidence to reconstruct events.

Qualifications and evaluation

The competencies or knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to perform this job are: Knowledge of Information Technology (e.g., operating systems, hardware and software, mobile devices, databases, data structures, programming language) to conduct comprehensive system evaluations, audits, awareness, and review for compliance. Knowledge of digital forensic and/or Information Technology techniques used to analyze computer hardware, software, digital storage media, and various computer and mobile forensic software applications. Skill in resolving technical issues that arise during the course of a digital evidence examination in order to extract data and other artifacts used for investigations. Skill in applying Federal information systems security protocols to conduct a comprehensive overview of digital evidence, consisting of, but not limited to computer hardware, software, and digital media storage with a focus on portable media. Ability to articulate orally and in writing complex technical issues to non-technical audiences. Including the ability to perform unsupervised casework.
