Summary
The Supervisory Social Worker (Service Chief) provides supervision to the social work service line, with multiple sections or programs across the health care delivery system as well as an assistant chief and supervisors. The Supervisory Social Worker (Service Chief) has full responsibility for managing and supervising all aspects of social work service operations including clinical practice, program management, education, human resource management and supervision of the service.

The employee is responsible for ensuring the administrative and clinical supervision of Social Work staff in their professional role. Incumbent ensures the provision of social work services and/or case management services in a variety of inpatient and outpatient program areas and clinics. Oversees all professional social work activities within the medical center ensuring that educational and quality of care functions related to the psychosocial needs of veterans are met. To accomplish the functions of this position, close cooperation with leadership. Responsible for making decisions regarding work problems presented by subordinate social work supervisors. Incumbent collaborates with others in negotiating, deciding upon and/or coordinating social work-related changes affecting other programs. The employee will advise Care Line Chiefs on problems involving the relationship of social work activities to the various units and programs. Make selections for supervisory and non-supervisory positions, hear group grievances and serious employee complaints, review serious disciplinary cases (i.e., those proposing suspensions and removals), and disciplinary problems involving key employees. Participates in making major decisions affecting the basic content and character of the operations of programs. These decisions involve matters, such as determining which program elements should be initiated, dropped, curtailed or emphasized; how many resources should be deployed; the time of curtailing, initiating, and changing program elements. Responsible for ensuring technical program development, management and evaluation that includes assessing the mission, goals, programs and problems of the medical facility in terms of psychosocial needs of patients and establishes social work objectives to meet those needs which are consistent with medical center goals. Reviews information pertaining to the social work programs from a variety of sources (e.g., federal, state and local including Veterans Health Administration, Joint Commission, National Association of Social Workers, Society of Social Work Administrators in Health Care of the American Hospital Association, etc.). Develops procedures for and ensures the implementation and achievement of the provision of social work services to medical facility patients on inpatient and outpatient programs. Work Schedule: 7:00 am - 4:00 pm Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year). Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child. Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.
