Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

Duties

This is an Open Continuous Announcement Until September 30, 2026. Qualified applicants will be referred every other week starting August 5, 2026 until closing of announcement or until position is filled. The HUD-VASH Social Worker is situated in the Mental Health and Behavioral Sciences Service Line. They are responsible for serving as the primary contact with local Public Housing Agencies (PHAs) and providing case management-based services (directly or through referral) to Veterans experiencing homelessness or those formerly homeless. The HUD-VASH Social Worker ensures that Veteran care is coordinated with the VA medical center, community health or mental health providers, and agencies that serve homeless populations. Major duties include but are not limited to: Identifying behaviors or symptoms of abuse, neglect or exploitation. Providing education on advance directives and advanced care planning. Acting as an advocate with appropriate VA and community service providers/agencies when it serves the best interest of the Veteran and family members/caregiver. Assessing the psychosocial functioning and needs of Veterans and their family members identifying the Veteran's strengths, weaknesses, coping skills and psychosocial acuity. Maintaining a current network of internal and external resources to educate the Veteran and/or family members/caregivers. Providing social work case management and assist with the appropriate referrals. Provide psychosocial services in the assigned area under supervision at the GS-09 level. Independently provides clinical psychosocial and case management services for eligible Veterans in the program at the GS-11 level. Continuous coordination with the community's homeless providers and coalitions as well as with other local, state, and federal agencies. All other duties as assigned. Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66. Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Telework: Per supervisory discretion.
