As part of a 12-person Marketing team within a much larger Communications department, the Social Media Associate supports awareness, advocacy, and engagement efforts through social listening, audience engagement, insights, and content development. The ideal candidate has a strong interest in issue advocacy and a well-rounded background in social media, digital communications, and content strategy.Â
This is a non-supervisory position.Â
The Social Media Associate is expected to work a full-time (37.5 hours/week) schedule and may work hybrid from the following locations: San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, or Washington, DC. Â
WHAT YOU’LL DOÂ
Audience Engagement & Social Listening (35%)Â
- Monitor Earthjustice social platforms daily and engage with audiences through comments and conversationsÂ
- Conduct social listening to track sentiment and emerging narratives in the news cycle, identifying rapid response opportunities for engagement and thought leadershipÂ
- Share insights from social listening to inform content, campaigns, and engagement strategiesÂ
Content & Copywriting (35%)Â
- Draft social media copy in collaboration with social team for use across platforms Â
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders and social media team to conceptualize and plan content for Earthjustice campaignsÂ
- Ensure all content is accurate, on-brand, and tailored to target audiencesÂ
Planning & Reporting (20%)Â
- Support reporting & analytics by pulling regular reports on social media metrics and campaign performanceÂ
- Share ongoing insights and recommendations to improve KPIs and content performanceÂ
- Maintain social content calendars; Coordinate content reviews and publishing workflowsÂ
Other (10%)Â
- Stay informed on platform updates and evolving social media best practicesÂ
- Support special projects and cross-functional initiatives as neededÂ
- Actively pursue professional development and contribute to a culture of learning by building skills and sharing knowledge.Â

WHAT YOU’LL BRINGÂ
- 2-3 years of experience in social media, digital communications, or a related fieldÂ
- Exceptional written communication and copywriting skillsÂ
- Experience in nonprofit, legal, or issue advocacyÂ
- Organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple project timelinesÂ
- Strong understanding of social platforms and community management best practicesÂ
- Proficiency with social media management, listening, and reporting platforms such as Brandwatch, Sprout Social, and/or HootsuiteÂ
- Basic design or video editing experience using tools such as Canva or Adobe Creative SuiteÂ

SALARY & BENEFITSÂ

Salaries at Earthjustice are determined by working location and are commensurate with the experience required.
The annual salary range for this role in San Francisco and New York, NY is
 $80,300 - $89,200.
The annual salary range for this role in Los Angeles, CA, Chicago, IL, and Washington, DC is $76,300 - $84,800.  Â
