About NewWorld:
NewWorld is an award‑winning next‑generation media company operating at the intersection of culture, storytelling, and rapid response. Our stories, shows and campaigns meet audiences at the speed of culture, shining a light on the world as it is, while inspiring courage and confidence to change it. Our team combines cultural intelligence, creative storytelling and strategic intervention to build trust, shape narratives, and move people from outrage to optimism– and from optimism to action.
About the role:
As Creative Director, you will serve as the embedded design lead for a mission-driven client—a growing national community of people who've lived through the worst that hurricanes, floods, wildfires, and tornadoes can bring, now uniting to make sure no survivor ever has to rebuild alone. This is a chance to lead the build of a brand from the ground up: to shape how an entire movement looks, feels, and is recognized in the world, and to leave behind the systems, guidelines, and creative infrastructure that let it operate—and grow—like an established organization for years to come. Reporting to our CEO & Founder, and collaborating closely with our Chief Creative Officer and Strategy Advisor, you'll also work directly with our Program Lead, the client's CEO, and an external website developer to bring the brand to life. Your primary responsibilities will be to (1) design and deliver a complete brand identity system and guidelines, (2) build out supporting brand assets including a video production playbook and core brand toolkit, and (3) guide the website wireframe and development process in partnership with the developer through launch.
We are searching for a designer who moves easily between big-picture brand thinking and precise, hands-on execution. You know how to take an organization with little to no existing visual identity and build something coherent, credible, and built to last— guidelines, toolkits, and systems that a small team can actually use day to day. You're comfortable being the sole design authority on an account and managing another designer if necessary for the scope of work. You collaborate well with a senior strategist and an external developer, know how to keep a brand rollout on schedule, and take pride in leaving a client with tools they can run with long after the initial build is done.
This is a fulltime contract position with expected working hours of 9am-6pm. We also would like this role to attend routine internal and client meetings as applicable to your role.
Responsibilities:
- Brand identity development—Design a full brand identity system (logo, color, typography, visual language) appropriate for an early-stage impact/nonprofit organization. Success looks like a distinct, credible identity the client can use confidently across all channels.
- Brand guidelines & toolkit—Create comprehensive brand guidelines and a core brand toolkit (templates, assets, usage rules) that empower a small internal team to apply the brand consistently without ongoing design support. Success looks like a toolkit that's genuinely self-serve for non-designers.
- Video production playbook—Develop a video production playbook that establishes visual and storytelling standards for the client's video content. Success looks like clear, repeatable guidance the client (or future vendors) can follow.
- Website wireframe & development oversight—Lead wireframing for the client's website and partner with the external developer through build and launch. Success looks like a site that reflects the new brand and launches on schedule.
- Client & internal collaboration—Serve as the client's primary design point of contact. Success looks like smooth, clear collaboration with no ambiguity about design ownership.
Qualifications & Qualities:
Successful candidates will have all of the following:
- 7+ years of experience in brand identity design, with ownership of full systems from concept through guidelines
- Experience building brand assets from near-zero—i.e., standing up an identity for an organization with little to no existing visual foundation
- Strong track record of delivering brand guidelines and toolkits that non-designers can use independently
- Experience with website wireframing and collaborating with developers through build and launch
- Experience creating or contributing to video production standards or playbooks
- Working understanding of how to translate mission, voice, and program work into visual identity—particularly for nonprofit or impact-driven organizations
- Proficient with modern design tools (Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, or equivalent)
- Obsessed with building a culture of collaboration, respect, and excellence
- Thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced, start-up environment
Preferred additional qualifications:
Few candidates will bring all of these strengths, and none are strictly required; experience in the following areas would be an additional asset.
- Past experience working with nonprofit, impact, or mission-driven organizations
- Experience being the sole design lead on a client account (agency-side or embedded)
- Experience collaborating with strategists on integrated brand/creative accounts
- Comfort working directly with executive-level stakeholders (CEO, founders) who may not have design backgrounds
