Our location in Lake County, IL currently has an opportunity for a Manufacturing Specialist, Animal Care. The Manufacturing Specialist, Animal Care will support humane care and use of animals in production and research. This includes animal handling, husbandry activities, facility support, manufacturing activity, and treatment and identification of animal disease. Additionally, the Manufacturing Specialist will follow established procedures and guidelines to manufacture products according to product specifications, volume, cost, and quality standards.
What You’ll Work On
Animal Care and Use:
- Performs daily health monitoring, clinical care and enrichment for farm and laboratory animals.
- Communicates with clinical veterinarians, animal care staff and investigators on a regular basis, including all animal welfare needs.
- Performs physical examinations and treatments as deemed necessary by the clinical veterinarians.
- Executes study procedures in an ethical and responsible manner, according to a written animal use protocol.
- Maintains and monitors various reports and records including animal health and husbandry records.
- Prepares and submits specimens for testing at diagnostic laboratories as determined necessary by the clinical veterinarians.
- Operates machines and production equipment safely and in accordance with instructions.
- Maintains accurate daily production records so that manufacturing performance can be analyzed.
- Participates in the training of animal care staff in proper animal handling and care techniques.
- Participates in various staff meetings, staff training and continuing education.
Facility Support:
- Cleans production equipment and work areas.
- Performs simple facility maintenance tasks with supervision and escalates complex tasks.
- Utilizes plant work order system to document and order facility-related tasks.
- Performs routine walk-throughs to identify maintenance issues proactively.
- Leads facility-related tasks for the animal program and site engineering.
- Collaborates with site engineering on shared goals and projects.
- Leads and assists in performance of shutdown and major maintenance in collaboration with other stakeholders.
Accountability/Scope:
- Reports to Attending Veterinarian.
- Organizes and adapts daily/weekly activities to meet assigned duties.
- Assumes full accountability for quality and accuracy of processes, procedures, and documentation performed.
- Performs assigned tasks with supervision/guidance as required.
- Functions collaboratively in group settings.
- Highlights potential compliance or safety issues to area management.
- Cultivates relationships with coworkers, other departments, and managers.
- Communicates effectively to coworkers and managers.
- Takes initiative to be involved in team activities and decision-making.
- Acquires knowledge and experience for continuous self-development.
- Support achievement of departmental initiatives and goals.
- Ability to operate independently with high degree of autonomy and sense of urgency in a professional environment.

Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with livestock, including small ruminants or hoof stock is highly desirable
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline (animal science, facility management, engineering)
- Experience with operating heavy farm equipment (e.g., skid steer, tractor) is preferred
- 0-2 years of experience in applicable areas such as animal care, basic maintenance, or facility management
- Must be able to lift 100 lbs.
- Must be able to work a shift schedule that includes both Saturdays and Sundays or holidays on a rotating basis.

The base pay for this position is
$20.35 – $40.65/hourIn specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
