Summary

Champion Homes is seeking a safety-focused Class A CDL driver to operate a company-owned Chevrolet 1-ton dual-rear-wheel pickup pulling a 40-foot gooseneck trailer. The driver delivers materials, components and equipment between Champion plants, retail centers, suppliers and job sites on time and in full compliance with DOT regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Safely operate the company truck and 40 ft gooseneck trailer on regional routes in Ohio, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Wisconsin and Minnesota, including overnight trips as needed.
• Perform and document pre-trip and post-trip inspections of truck and trailer; report defects immediately.
• Hook up and uncouple the gooseneck, including safety chains, breakaway system and brake controller.
• Load, position and secure cargo to federal cargo securement standards.
• All loads will be required to be tarped by driver.
• Check weights and stay within truck, trailer and state legal limits.
• Keep accurate hours-of-service records using an electronic logging device (ELD).
• Complete delivery paperwork, bills of lading and fuel receipts.
• Communicate with dispatch, plant staff and customers about schedules and delays.
• Keep the truck and trailer clean and arrange routine maintenance.
• Report any accident, citation or injury to management right away.
• Report any product damage to management at time of delivery.
• Follow all Champion Homes safety policies and the DOT drug and alcohol program.

Required Qualifications

• At least 21 years of age.
• Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License.
• Current DOT medical examiner's certificate.
• Able to read and speak English well enough to talk with law enforcement, read road signs and complete reports.
• 3 years of verifiable Class A or gooseneck/hotshot driving experience.
• Acceptable driving record per Champion Homes' MVR standards.
• Pass a DOT pre-employment drug test and Clearinghouse query and take part in random testing.
• Working knowledge of hours-of-service and cargo securement rules.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience hauling building materials, modular components or flatbed freight.
• Experience with ELDs.
• Clean MVR for the past [3/5] years.

Physical Requirements

• Climb on and off the truck and trailer deck safely.
• Lift and handle straps and traps up.
• Work outdoors in all weather.
• Sit for extended periods while driving.
