Summary
The Law Enforcement Specialist (Infrastructure Protection Program Manager) position is located within the VA Police Service at the Greater Los Angeles VA Medical Center in Los Angeles, CA. Serves as the Infrastructure Protection Program Manager (IPPM) managing all aspects of the Security Program for the Medical Center/Health Care System, which ensures that individuals requiring access have been vetted.
Duties
Duties include but are not limited to: Coordinates the physical security program across the Health Care System's catchment area (VA-owned and leased properties) by coordinating efforts or functions that impact multiple Medical Centers and sites of care. Provides physical security support for Veterans Health Administration, Veterans Benefits Administration, and National Cemetery Administration (VHA/VBA/NCA). Assist in evaluating risk and developing procedures and physical security measures designed to safeguard personnel, property, and operations from unauthorized access, espionage, terrorism, sabotage, damage, and theft. Provides recommendations to the Facility Security Committees and Chief of Police regarding matters pertaining to security systems and security of VA/VHA/NCA assets. Provides technical advisement during assigned phases of the design and construction of planned VA/VHA/NCA projects concerning security engineering and electronic security systems. Utilizes resources and knowledge of security program interrelationships Prepares, updates, and organizes physical security-related documents, including reports, spreadsheets, graphs, and presentations, to support security program objectives and compliance requirements. Conducts inspections of federal VA facilities and worksites for compliance with VA physical security requirements. Analyzes problems, determines deficiencies, finalizes inspection results to include draft, review, editing, and evaluation, and takes corrective action. Work Schedule: Compressed/Flexible Schedule. Candidates must be willing to work weekends, irregular work hours and extended hours if determined by the needs of the service. Furthermore, candidates must be willing to be placed, detailed, or temporarily assigned to other related services and/or locations, if necessary. Requirements

Qualifications and evaluation

Applicants will be assessed through a structured, multi-phase evaluation process designed to determine their qualifications and suitability and includes the following phases: Phase 1: Timed Virtual Written Examination Eligible applicants will be invited to complete a timed, virtual, written examination. This assessment is designed to evaluate critical thinking, reading comprehension, and job-relevant knowledge. The exam must be completed as assigned and proctored by an agency representative. Phase 2: Oral Panel Interview Eligible applicants will be interviewed by 2-4 senior VA Police leaders with a determination of eligible/not eligible for further consideration. Phase 3: Work Scenario-Based Interview Applicants who pass the written examination will be scheduled for a work scenario-based interview. This structured interview will assess decision-making, judgment, communication, and problem-solving skills in situations commonly encountered by law enforcement personnel. This evaluation may include a sample written investigative report as provided by scenario materials provided to the applicant. Post-Selection Requirement: Physical Fitness Test Applicants who receive a tentative job offer will be required to successfully complete a timed Physical Fitness Test (PFT) prior to final appointment. The PFT consists of the following components that are standardized based on applicant specific factors: 1.5-mile run Push-ups Sit-ups The physical fitness standards are based on job-related requirements and must be met to ensure readiness for the physical demands of the position.
