Summary

South Texas Veterans Health Care System (STVHCS) is seeking to fill its vacant Geriatric and Extended Care Kerrville Geriatric Evaluation and Management Clinic (GEM) or Geri-PACT Medical Director's position. Role responsibility includes leading interdisciplinary staff while providing high quality patient centered care to Veterans in an outpatient setting at its Kerrville, Texas location.

Duties

The Kerrville GEM clinic provides both primary care and specialty care to geriatric patients. The medical director is responsible for the quality of care provided by the program, for the productivity of the program and for the development and implementation of programs and initiatives to meet the South Texas Veterans Health Care System {STVHCS) mission. Duties include but are not limited to the following: Administrative Duties: Leadership responsibilities HR Management Staff Management Time/Leave Management Business Planning/Systems Redisign Clinical Management Transfers and Admissions coordination GEM Clinic safety and environmental standards responsibility, etc. Supervisory Duties: overseeing daily operation of assigned section evaluating work performance developing and implementing performance improvement plans and performance standards planning and scheduling work assignments approving leave effecting disciplinary measures advising, counseling and instructing employees collaborating with Labor Relations to resolve grievances and more serious complaints, etc. Clinical Duties: remaining privileged and practicing specialty field providing patient care applying knowledge to patient care and the education of others timely document clinic encounters in VA's Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS), etc. Education, Research and Development Duties: Liaisoning with ACOS for Education for UME/GME issues and ensures orientation to section rotation for program trainees (residents, students) Teaching, monitoring and coordinating educational activities, and complying with necessary trainee supervision Liaisoning with ACOS for Research Identifying and defining significant Research and Development problems Supporting the ACOS for Research and subordinate staff to plan and execute research program(s) Generating effective reports and results worthy of publication, etc. Appraised Value Offer (AVO): Not Authorized Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME) Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification) Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting EDRP Authorized: This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply for incentive. Requirements

U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Qualifications and evaluation

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Board Certified (or Board Eligibile) in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine with experience of at least 10 years in patient management, either at long term care, inpatient, or outpatient settings Board Certified (or Board Eligibile) in Geriatric Medicine or Hospice and Palliative Medicine Clinical experience caring for older adults. Post-graduate fellowship training in Geriatric Medicine and/or Palliative Medicine Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Education

Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted. Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) for the year in which the degree was granted. For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, confirmation must be made that the medical school meets (or met) Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) eligibility requirement for year graduated.
