Eight positions are currently available in the following locations: National Park Service Intermountain Region Zone 4 - duty location Torry, Utah; Bryce Canyon, Utah; OR Moab, Utah National Park Service Intermountain Region Zone 5 - duty location La Junta, CO National Park Service Intermountain Region Zone 6 - duty location Camp Verde, AZ; Petrified Forest National Park, AZ; Roosevelt, AZ; OR Flagstaff, AZ National Park Service Intermountain Region Zone 8 - duty location Pecos, NM National Park Service Intermountain Region Zone 9 - duty location Oklahoma City, OK National Park Service Midwest Region - duty location Chicago, IL; St. Louis, MO; OR Omaha, NE Grand Teton National Park - duty location Moose, WY Yellowstone National Park - duty location Yellowstone Park, WY Some positions are represented by a bargaining unit, but not all are. Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following: Serves as the subject matter expert and principal advisor responsible for planning, developing, directing and coordinating a safety and occupational health program for a park or group of parks. Evaluates, compiles and analyzes behavioral, work environment, and accident statistical data, and prepares charts, tables and reports to communicate this information to management, staff, and others. Coordinates and oversees the development of safety education and training material and conducts safety training programs for managers, supervisors, staff, and park concessionaires. Coordinates and/or conducts annual inspections and ensures that programs are current and compatible with Occupational Safety and Health Program and public Risk Management Programs, park and region safety plans, and bureau and agency policies. Provides guidance to and/or leads teams in investigating lost time incidents to help idetify chain of events, root causes, corrective actions, recommendations for improvement and follow-up to ensure corrective action has been taken.

Requirements

Must provide proof of U.S. citizenship. Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license throughout employment. You are required to wear a uniform and comply with uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided. You are required to complete training, obtain and maintain a government credit card with travel and purchase authority. You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work. You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 15 nights per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes. Some positions may require less travel. Must maintain the physical ability to perform the duties of the position, including, but not limited to: walking and hiking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces, crouching, climbing, stooping, crawling under buildings and in attics, etc... in adverse weather conditions and in high elevation environments. Some positions require a respirator fit test which requires pre-employment and periodic medical examinations. The Yellowstone National Park position requires the ability to travel by helicopter and snowmobile.

Qualifications and evaluation

The salary listed in the "Overview" section is for the "Rest Of US" pay locality. Pay will vary based on the duty location for which you're selected. For the full range of potential pay please see the 2026 GS Pay Tables. First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the step 1 rate. Physical Demands: The performance of inspections and investigations of mishaps requires frequent physical exertion such as frequent walking and hiking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces, crouching, climbing, stooping, crawling under buildings and in attics, etc. Occasionally is required to ride as a passenger in light fixed wing aircraft and/or helicopters, and to ride in or operate small watercraft. The use of personal protective equipment (hard hat, steel-toed boots, gloves, eye goggles, and respirators) is required due to exposure to hazardous occupational environments. The interpersonal relationships and conflicts involved with compliance and problem resolution can produce high job stress. Frequent travel away from the incumbent's office is required. Work Environment: Incumbent is subject to exposure to operating machines and equipment, hazardous materials, high noise level, hazardous gases, fumes and dust, hazardous waste materials, and other occupational environments. Protective clothing and equipment are required. Incumbent also serves in a staff position in a heated/air-conditioned office setting. However, field work often occurs in rough terrain and under varying weather conditions. Work may be underground, may have exposure to high electrical energy and/or heights. Emergency operations may also require working in nighttime operations, in adverse terrain and all climatic conditions.
