Boeing Commercial Airplanes is excited to offer opportunities for an Environmental Control Technician A to join our Materials Management & Tooling team in Moses Lake, Washington.

As an Environmental Control Technician A, you will manage hazardous-materials and hazardous-waste operations to ensure regulatory compliance, worker safety, and environmental protection. This role oversees ordering, receiving, storage, dispensing, and inventory control of chemicals, and prepares required regulatory records and manifests. The technician sorts, samples, classifies, labels, and containerizes waste for proper disposal, operates containment and cleanup equipment, and responds to spill events using appropriate PPE and vehicles/equipment. They also perform preventive maintenance on environmental systems, coordinate with environmental engineers and shop personnel, provide chemical information and training (SDS/Hazard Communication), support process improvements, and maintain required certifications.

Position Responsibilities:

• Coordinate and assign technicians based on priorities and customer needs; and liaise with environmental engineers/administrators on regulatory administration and implementation sitewide.

• Order, receive, log, and verify hazardous materials via forms or online systems (e.g., HAZTRAX, Crib Master, HMM, CMS, RMS); investigate and resolve discrepancies and ensure paperwork matches materials.

• Issue, deliver, and record chemicals and supplies to control points/points of use (AOG, flight line, shop) using manual entry or barcode scanning; follow up on shop requests.

• Store hazardous materials and supplies in designated areas per procedures and specs, monitor for visible degradation, rotate stock, and track time/temperature–sensitive (TATS) materials; dispose of out-of-compliance material per engineering/designation and codes.

• Manage hazardous-waste receiving/collection, sort/divide/consolidate incompatible or unknown wastes for disposal with appropriate equipment (press, bailer, compactor) and in coordination with EHS.

• Containerize, label, band, and palletize hazardous waste drums/products and prepare/verify/certify hazardous waste manifests and land disposal notifications per regulatory requirements.

• Perform limited sampling and testing of hazardous wastes (corrosive, flammable, unknown) for classification and disposal using appropriate equipment and lab procedures; maintain related data and analysis.

• Operate and monitor manual/automated dispensing equipment to fill/refill containers with appropriate chemicals and audit/adjust dispensing to reduce inventory and waste.

• Maintain and audit hazardous-material inventories, track usage to reduce waste, and perform periodic inventory accuracy checks.

• Respond to hazardous-material spill calls (including confined-space cleanup), operate assigned vehicles/equipment (trucks, boats, forklifts, electric stackers, cranes) to support cleanup/containment, and use appropriate PPE for spill response.

• Perform/monitor Total Preventive Maintenance (TPM) on scrubbers, paint booths, oil/water separators, and related equipment; notify maintenance/supervision of malfunctions.

• Prepare and maintain accurate regulatory records for environmental reporting (local, state, federal, Boeing audits), accumulation station data, manifests, inspection logs, and shift tie-ins.

• Provide chemical information and serve as area resource for SDS, Hazard Communication, chemical/hazardous-waste reduction programs; give training/presentations and support process improvement activities and change coordination.

• Coordinate with other organizations (inspection, shops, suppliers) to ensure material requirements are met, assist with shipment checks, and perform incidental maintenance-class work as needed to accomplish assignments.

• Maintain required personal, training, and equipment certifications; contact coworkers or supervisors when assistance or escalation is needed and follow documented procedures for safe handling and disposal of hazardous materials.

Physical Demands and Potential Hazards:

• Perform physical tasks that include lifting weights ranging from 10-15 lbs. to 15-35 lbs.

• Engage in various movements such as reaching, handling, turning, twisting, lifting, lowering, climbing, balancing, bending, kneeling, crouching, and squatting.

• Work in environments that may involve contact with metals, solvents, and coolants.

• Operate in proximity to moving parts and tools, sharp cutters, and potential slipping hazards.

• Adapt to varying noise levels and atmospheric conditions.

• Utilize personal safety gear to protect face/eyes, hands/arms, and feet while performing job duties.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

Basic Qualifications:

Relevant experience can include academic qualifications, military service, or other industry-related roles.

• 4+ years of experience handling chemicals and/or hazardous material.

• Experience operating a forklift and electric pallet jacks.                                                                                                                                                                                 

• Experience working with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

• Currently possess a valid driver’s license.

• Currently hold or ability to obtain a forklift license.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 3+ years of experience with the stat e of Washington regulatory requirements, EPA requirements and have the acquired Washington Department of Health water distribution operator certification and treatment operator certification.​

• 1+ years of experiencing executing data entry, retrieval and inventory management.

• Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather conditions, including extreme cold, heat, rain, snow and wind.
