Job Title: Adult Day Program Instructor

Location: 5100 Tice Street Fort Myers, FL 33905

Employment Type: Full-Time, Hourly, Non-Exempt

Goodwill Southwest Florida is seeking an Adult Day Program Instructor to provide direct support and training to individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities in the Adult Day Training (ADT) program, Pathways to Opportunity. This position helps individuals develop daily living, self-advocacy, adaptive, and social skills through both individual and group instruction. The Adult Day Program Instructor promotes independence, choice, and empowerment while ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of the individuals served.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct situational assessments to identify each individual's goals, preferences, and skills.
  • Assist in the development and ongoing updates of Individualized Implementation Plans (IIPs) in accordance with program requirements.
  • Provide services as outlined in each individual's Individual Support Plan and Service Authorization.
  • Maintain daily service logs, communication logs, and other required documentation.
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
  • Develop daily program activities, coordinate community integration opportunities, and create quarterly lesson plans.
  • Provide instruction and training in both facility and community settings using individual and group service models.
  • Work closely with individuals served, Waiver Support Coordinators, parents, guardians, residential support staff, and other identified team members.
  • Support the development of daily living, self-advocacy, adaptive, and social skills while promoting independence and personal growth.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and supportive environment and provide assistance with meal preparation, behavioral needs, and personal care when needed.
  • Respect the rights and confidentiality of individuals served and ensure those rights are maintained at all times.
  • Monitor for behavioral or physical changes and notify management as appropriate.
  • Complete all required trainings and certifications in accordance with the Developmental Disabilities Medicaid Waiver Handbook, Agency for Persons with Disabilities requirements, and Goodwill policies.
  • Attend and participate in meetings as requested.
  • Maintain program files and binders, including profile sheets, rosters, assessments, and other required records.
  • Complete incident reports using approved forms and procedures.
  • Collaborate with community partners and volunteers to support program activities.
  • Drive program vans to community outings and activities while following all transportation policies and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or GED required; bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferred.

  • Related experience preferred.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and sound judgment when interviewing, evaluating, and working with individuals served and their support teams.

  • Strong writing and vocabulary skills.

  • Knowledge of the functional, medical, psychological, and social aspects of disabilities.

  • Ability to manage stress related to crisis intervention.

  • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds.

  • Knowledge of active listening, conflict resolution, and counseling techniques.

  • Ability to document accurate case management notes and prepare individual action plans.

  • Ability to provide leadership and maintain consistency and continuity in daily program activities.

  • Ability to develop task analyses and assessments.

  • Creativity in adapting environments and instructional materials to meet individual needs.

  • Knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act, Agency for Persons with Disabilities, Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, Rehabilitation Technologies, and Instructional Techniques.

  • Knowledge of professional standards related to conduct, communication, appearance, and ethics.

  • Knowledge of and ability to implement organizational and program policies and procedures.

  • Knowledge of Life Skills Development 3 services as outlined in the Developmental Disabilities Medicaid Waiver Handbooks and Delmarva.

  • Certification in CPR, First Aid, Infection Control, and HIV/AIDS, or the ability to obtain training in these areas.

  • Valid Florida driver's license, current Florida vehicle registration, and proof of automobile insurance required to operate a program van.
