Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Human Resources (HR) Service Delivery Consultant to lead the design, implementation, and operational oversight of strategic initiatives that expand and strengthen U.S. background screening capabilities.

This individual contributor will serve as a primary operational liaison across HR Service Delivery, Employee Relations, Legal, Labor Relations, Cybersecurity, HR Business Partners, Talent Acquisition, Compliance, technology teams, and external screening providers. The role will translate business, legal, regulatory, and risk requirements into scalable processes, controls, procedures, and operational solutions.

This role supports the design, implementation, and oversight of background screening initiatives through expertise in investigations, compliance, operational risk, and cross-functional leadership.

In this role, you will

  • Lead the design, implementation, stabilization, and continuous improvement of initiatives that expand U.S. background screening capabilities.

  • Develop scalable screening processes, operating procedures, controls, service standards, quality measures, and escalation protocols aligned with evolving business, legal, regulatory, and risk requirements.

  • Translate stakeholder needs into functional requirements, case-management workflows, operating procedures, training materials, implementation plans, and quality standards.

  • Coordinate with screening providers and internal partners to implement new services, screening packages, system configurations, and operational workflows.

  • Lead operational readiness activities, including staffing support, training, procedure documentation, vendor coordination, communications, testing, launch, escalation planning, and post-launch stabilization.

  • Establish quality assurance practices that promote accurate, consistent, timely, and well-documented screening decisions.

  • Serve as a senior escalation point for complex, sensitive, or high-risk screening matters requiring coordination across Legal, Employee Relations, Compliance, background screening, and business stakeholders.

  • Assess screening results and investigative information, identify material issues, and prepare clear summaries and recommendations that support informed decision-making.

  • Develop management reporting and operational insights related to screening volumes, cycle times, discrepancies, exceptions, escalations, quality, service performance, and program outcomes.

  • Identify operational, legal, regulatory, employee-experience, and reputational risks and recommend appropriate controls and mitigation strategies.

  • Provide functional leadership, coaching, and subject-matter guidance to screening team members without formal people-management responsibility.

  • Build strong stakeholder relationships and communicate screening requirements, case status, timelines, risks, and outcomes with clarity and transparency.
     

Required qualification

  • 6+ years of Human Resources operations experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
     

Desired qualifications

  • Extensive experience in HR service delivery, background screening, employment investigations, operational risk, compliance, employee relations, or a related function, including leadership of high-volume pre-employment or post-employment screening operations.

  • Demonstrated experience conducting or leading complex investigations involving criminal history, employment and education verification, interviews, court or public records, regulatory requirements, and other employment-related reviews.

  • Experience managing sensitive or high-risk cases, exercising independent judgment, maintaining strict confidentiality, and presenting clear investigative findings, risk assessments, and recommendations to Legal, Employee Relations, Compliance, or senior business stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated experience leading complex process implementations, operational transitions, system enhancements, screening expansions, rescreening activities, post-hire risk programs, or new program launches through testing, launch, and stabilization.

  • Experience translating business, legal, regulatory, and risk requirements into scalable operating procedures, functional requirements, case workflows, controls, decision frameworks, training materials, implementation plans, and escalation protocols.

  • Experience establishing or overseeing quality assurance practices that promote accuracy, consistency, timely service, documentation quality, compliance, and appropriate application of approved review standards.

  • Knowledge of employment screening requirements and related legal and regulatory considerations, including the Fair Credit Reporting Act and applicable state or local requirements, with the ability to identify and mitigate operational, candidate-experience, employee-relations, and reputational risks.

  • Experience developing or improving case-management systems, policies, procedures, playbooks, service-level expectations, management reporting, and operational insights related to volumes, cycle times, discrepancies, exceptions, escalations, quality, and service performance.

  • Demonstrated ability to influence decisions, manage competing priorities, sustain service and quality through organizational change or increased workload, and partner effectively with Legal, Employee Relations, Labor Relations, Registration and Licensing, Cybersecurity, HR Business Partners, Talent Acquisition, Compliance, vendors, and technology teams.

  • Experience providing functional leadership, coaching, and subject-matter guidance to investigators or other professionals;

  • A bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, human resources, business, risk management, or a related discipline is preferred.
