Summary

This position is located in the Division of Maintenance at Rock Creek Park (ROCR), Department of Interior in Washington, District of Columbia. The primary purpose of the position is to provide recurring maintenance and repair work on roads, trails, and signs, and assist journeymen and other higher graded maintenance workers with recurring building and/or utility maintenance and operation duties. First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the step 1 rate.

Duties

At the full performance level (WG-07) the major duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following: Provides recurring maintenance and repair work on roads, trails, and signs. Assists journeymen and other higher graded maintenance workers with recurring building and/or utility maintenance and operation duties. Works as a team member on crews that perform pavement sealing, asphalt and concrete potholing, using hot patch, cold patch, and concrete mixtures, milling and paving. Creates and installs signage along roadways and trails. Operates and performs operator maintenance on cars, trucks, and/or vans and stake trucks to pick up supplies and to transport materials to and from work sites while assisting on project work.

Requirements

Must provide proof of U.S. citizenship. Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service. Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid driver's license throughout employment. Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL). Pre-employment and random alcohol and drug testing are required. You will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive test is received. You are required to wear a uniform and comply with uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided. Ability to lift at minimum 50 lbs. This is a designated Emergency/Essential position. You may be required to work some evenings and weekends. You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 2 nights per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes. This is a bargaining unit position. As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you may be required to serve a 1-year probationary period to evaluate your fitness and whether your continuation of employment advances the public interest. This probationary period is an extension of the appointment process and therefore requires the agency to determine if continued employment would advance the public interest, meet the organization goals and mission of the agency, and/or otherwise promote the efficiency of the service. Qualifications and evaluation

The assessment includes a cut score (85) based on the minimum level of required proficiency in these critical general competencies. You must meet or exceed the cut score to be considered. You will not be considered for the position if you score below the cut score or fail to complete the assessment. May work with dangerous chemicals, paints, solvents, etc. requiring the appropriate use of personal protective equipment as specified by the supervisor and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Works around moving equipment. May be exposed to insect and animal bites and stings, plant toxins. The work performed requires the exertion of very heavy physical effort in operating large riding mowers; or lawn and garden tractors on grades and in areas with bushes, trees, and other visible obstacles that require significant maneuvering and lever control. The work involves lifting and moving objects over 50 pounds, and in some cases, carrying 80 to 100 pounds (or more) with assistance.
