Summary

You will serve as a Utility Systems Repairer - Operator Yellowstone National Park in the Facilities Division. Government housing may be available. The primary purpose of this position is to install, maintain, test, troubleshoot, upgrade, repair, and calibrate highly complex and special purpose utility systems that require advanced skills in electronic sensing and control as well as pipefitting.

Duties

At the full performance level (WG-11) the major duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following: Perform advanced installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and upgrades on highly complex electronic control or high-pressure piping systems, often involving SCADA/PLC/telemetry systems or intricate utility piping networks. Work independently from minimal instruction, interpreting detailed engineering drawings or plans to lay out, assemble, repair, and test sophisticated system components. Adapt conventional tools and methods to solve complex technical problems, stay current with evolving technologies, and provide guidance or training to lower-graded employees; may also oversee major upgrades to park utility systems. Serve as the operator-in-charge of an entire wastewater or water treatment facility, overseeing complex treatment processes, regulatory compliance, and independent operational decision-making. Conduct and interpret varied, technical water and wastewater testing; manage the introduction of chemicals; and oversee maintenance and repair of treatment systems and equipment. Respond, independently, to system issues or emergencies, including activating/deactivating systems seasonally and calling in additional personnel when needed.

Requirements

Must provide proof of U.S. citizenship. Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service. You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work. Must have and maintain a valid driver's license throughout employment. Must have an active WY Level 3 Water Certification or equivalent certification from another state at the time of application. Must obtain a WY Level 4 Water Certification within 12 months. Must have an active WY Level 3 Wastewater Certification or equivalent certification from another state at the time of application. Must obtain a WY Level 4 Wastewater Certification within 24 months. You are required to wear a uniform and comply with the uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided. You are required to complete training, obtain and maintain a government credit card with travel and purchase authority. You must be at least 18 years of age or older to operate government vehicles. As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period during which your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest will be evaluated. This period is an extension of the appointment process and therefore requires the agency to determine if continued employment would advance the public interest, meet the organization goals and mission of the agency, and/or otherwise promote the efficiency of the service. Qualifications and evaluation

Physical Demands: Work assignments typically require moderate to heavy physical effort to lift, carry, or otherwise handle items typically weighing up to 50 pounds. Duties require the incumbent to maneuver into and out of specific locations while dismantling and assembling utility related equipment. The incumbent makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms where the parts of systems worked on are in hard-to-reach places. Frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching, and stooping is typical. Occasionally, climbing and work in high places may be required, as well as the use of hoists, holders, and pulleys when handling large equipment. Working Conditions: Work is both indoors and outdoors for extended periods where the incumbent may be subject to prevailing weather conditions. You may be exposed to biological hazards or diseases while cleaning equipment or shoveling sludge, and hazardous gases such as methane, chlorine, hydrogen sulfide, and carbon monoxide. You may also be subject to electrical shock, loud noises, acids, and hydraulic fluids while working around motors and pumps. There is exposure to shock, burns, and strains. You will follow prescribed safety practices and uses safety equipment such as face shields, gloves, hard-toe shoes, respirators, and protective clothing that may be uncomfortable to wear. You will be required to attend and participate in safety meetings and training and review and follow safety regulations and policies prior to using Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as goggles, rubber mats, gloves, hard hats and respirators as the jobs require. You may be required to operate motor vehicles and heavy engineering equipment.
