JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Opportunity

The Farm Coordinator will support day-to-day operations in Abbott Cancer Diagnostic’s onsite hydroponic farms. Operation includes seeding, transplanting, and harvesting as well as cleaning and maintenance tasks to ensure proper and safe food handling and growing in the farm. The Farm Coordinator delivers programs such as: farming demonstrations/classes, farm tours, recycling/composting, and various related employee events throughout the year.

What You’ll Work On

Include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Grow inside container hydroponic farms including seeding, transplanting, harvesting, and packaging produce.
  • Clean and maintain the hydroponic farm, including general farm cleaning, refilling water and nutrient tanks and calibrating sensors.
  • Test and maintain water quality for growing.
  • Maintain a safe working environment.
  • Troubleshoot automated nutrient system when issues arise.
  • Work collaboratively with food service and catering.
  • Plan and support community outreach opportunities.
  • Champion of an effective food safety program.
  • Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to maintain a solution-oriented mindset.
  • Excellent organizational skills including the ability to organize projects and maintain timelines for tracking progress.
  • Strong, reliable worker with ability to work independently.
  • Self-starter who has great attention to detail and a willingness to learn new subjects.

  • Ability to work seated for approximately 20% of a typical working day. Ability to work standing for approximately 80% of a typical working day.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds for approximately 20% of a typical working day.
  • Ability to grasp with both hands; pinch with thumb and forefinger; turn with hand/arm; reach above shoulder height.
  • Ability to comply with any applicable personal protective equipment requirements.
  • Ability to use various types of laboratory equipment; including microscopes, microtomes, blades, strainers, and pipettes for extended periods of time.
  • May perform repetitious actions using lab tools.
  • Ability to use near vision to view samples at close range.
  • May be exposed to hazardous materials, tissue specimens, and instruments with moving parts, lasers, heating and freezing elements, and high-speed centrifugation.
  • Ability and means to travel between Madison locations.
  • Ability to travel 5% of working time away from work location, may include overnight/weekend travel.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • 1+ years of experience working in a production hydroponic farm or greenhouse.
  • 1+ years of experience growing crops either hydroponically and/or traditionally.
  • 1+ years of professional working knowledge of food safety regulations and standards or a ServSafe Manager Certification.
  • Basic computer skills include Internet navigation, Email usage, word processing and cloud base application technology.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office to include Excel macros and pivot tables and Word mail merge.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Horticulture or related life sciences field; or Associate’s degree in Agriculture or related life sciences field and 2 years of relevant work experience in lieu of bachelor’s degree.

     

The base pay for this position is

$15.00 – $27.15/hour

In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
