Summary

You will serve as a Park Ranger (Visitor Services Technician) (Seasonal) working in St. Marks, Florida, for the St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge. This is a temporary position expected to last 6 months or Not to Exceed 1039 Hours.

Duties

This is a temporary appointment intended for seasonal work that is less than 6 months or 1040 hours from the date of appointment/service year. It is expected this position will be terminated upon completion of the seasons work. The agency may non-competitively rehire an eligible temporary seasonal worker in subsequent years who works less than 6 months or 1040 hours in their service year. As a Park Ranger (Visitor Services Technician) (Seasonal) your duties will include, but are not limited to, the following: Assists with environmental education program as activity or small group leader. Maintains equipment and supplies. Assists with overseeing the work of volunteers in a visitor center or on small work projects. Assists in planning volunteer recognition awards and events. Provides communications service for operational activities in areas such as emergency assistance, law enforcement, and firefighting support. Obtains and posts various information to records, such as number of visitors, survey information on length of visitor stay, size of visiting parties, and patterns of visitor use. Explains regulations to visitors and provides information and advice on approved activities and on the refuge's cultural, historical, and/or natural resources history and location. At a visitor center information desk, answers visitors' questions that are usually routine and repetitive and relate largely to factual situations, such as geographical location of facilities, trails, tour routes, boat ramps, and other recreational areas. Collects fees, sells permits, and safeguards and balances collected funds. Maintains records on accountable permits and stock items; and controls vehicular traffic.

Must provide proof of U.S. citizenship. Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service. Qualifications and evaluation

Your qualifications will be evaluated based on your application materials (e.g. resume, supporting documents), the responses you provide on the application questionnaire, and the result of any additional assessment(s) required for this position. Veterans with a service-connected disability of at least 10 percent are listed in the highest quality category, except when the position being filled is scientific or professional at the GS-09 grade level or higher. Under Category Rating, candidates will be rated and ranked into the following categories: Best Qualified - applicants possessing experience that substantially exceeds the minimum qualifications of the position including all selective factors and are highly proficient in all requirements of the job and can perform effectively in the position Well Qualified - applicants possessing experience that exceeds the minimum qualifications of the position including all selective factors and are proficient in most of the requirements of the job Qualified - applicants possessing experience that meets the minimum qualifications of the position including all selective factors and are proficient in some, but not all of the requirements of the job. You will be assessed in the following competencies (knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics): Knowledge of environmental education programs. Skill in operation of a busy visitor center/information desk or similar facility. Ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups in a variety of settings. If fewer than three eligible and available candidates per vacancy result, the agency will expand the group of candidates in accordance with the pre-announced supplement strategy and 5 CFR 332.402(f). Overstating your qualifications and/or experience in your application materials or application questionnaire may result in your removal from consideration. Cheating on an assessment may also result in your removal from consideration.
