THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This position is for an Aerial Delivery Specialist, Position Description Number D2130000 located at the Joint Force Headquarters, Marietta, Ga. This is a full-time, Excepted Permanent, dual status position which requires Georgia Army National Guard Membership. Area of Consideration: Open to all members of the Army National Guard.

Duties

As an Aerial Delivery Specialist, WG-5210-10, you will: Inspect a variety of airdrop equipment such as parachutes, multi loop lines, extraction force transfer couplings, latch assembly couplings, cable assembly couplings, actuator assembly, release cargo parachute M-1, lanyard arming wire, connector parachute, timer delay assembly, link lower suspension, link assembly single suspension type IV, link assembly heavy duty, link 4 point, parachute release single knife, bracket suspension, and tie down cargo quick release. Perform visual, dimensional, hands on, and operational inspection of the above listed equipment at the prescribed times. These inspections are in accordance with warnings, cautions, Army Regulations (AR), Technical Manuals (TM), Field Manuals (FM) and Department of Army Pamphlets (DA PAM, Safety of Use Messages (SOUM), and notes and Ground Precautionary Messages (GPM), for airborne safety. Make judgmental decisions on proximity to tolerances and interrelated dimensions on timer delay systems of M-1 release, latch assembly couplings, cable assembly couplings, and actuator assembly. Inspect for burrs, tears, significant fraying, rough spots, corrosion, pits, cracks, welds, cuts, foreign material, bends, damaged threads, adjusting collars, set screws, shank pins, and timers activate within specifications. Use a wide variety of inspection processes and techniques, and many unique and specially designed instruments and gauges (i.e., tension meters, scales, micrometers, gauges, torque wrenches, tests sets, porosity, oxygen test sets, altitude chambers, altimeters, and protractors). Prepare and conduct inspections of sling load equipment and sling load operations. Perform duties as inspector testers, pack-in-process inspector and final inspector. Perform initial inspection on all parachutes, textile and non-textile components, and airdrop containers. Conduct regular testing of parachute and newly issued airdrop equipment. Drop-test troop-type personnel parachute to check proficiency. Inspect and classify airdrop items to determine whether items are serviceable, repairable, or beyond economical repair. Inspect airdrop equipment repairs and parachute packing. Inspect air items to ensure manufacturer and Army quality control. Assist supervisory personnel in receiving, maintaining, and issuing supplies, as well planning work requirements and yearly forecasting. Perform prioritized airdrop inspections, sequential work is determined, and pertinent ARs, TMs, FMs and DA PAMs have been reviewed. Independently perform assignments at the Aerial Delivery Logistics Facility (ADLF) when the supervisor is not present. Perform three separate inspections of airdrop loads/containers prior to the actual airdrop. Make decisions on a wide range of matters that may involve deviations and departures from past precedents and accepted practice or highly subjective judgments that could affect safety of flight and crew. First inspect the AR 59-4 directed shop final inspection required for that specified type of load. The second inspection is the "before loading inspection". An airdrop Joint Air Drop Inspector (JAI) and Air Force Joint Airdrop Inspector (AFJAI) conduct joint inspections. Complete the proper airdrop inspection form in the DD Form 1748 (Joint Airdrop Inspection Record) series and all sign the appropriate blocks to certify correct rigging of the load. The third inspection is "after loading inspection"; this is after the equipment is on board the aircraft and is rigged for flight and airdrop. Perform inspection along with an AFJAI and the aircrew Load Master. Focus on dimensions and weights of rigged airdrop loads IAW ARs, TMs, FMs, and DA PAMs. This includes highly specialized rigging of equipment and personnel loads for highly sensitive Special Operations Force (SOF) missions. SOF aerial delivery operations, includes preparation, outfitting, and inspection for delivery of personnel and equipment into maritime environments and exceptionally hazardous terrain. Rig and prepare unilateral airdrop training loads to include type V or other airdrop platforms for airdrops. Fabricate container delivery systems loads, skid boards, and other associated airdrop items. Receive, unpack, and inspect unit parachutes. Clean, dry, inspect, and pack cargo and personnel parachutes after use. Maintain and repair a variety of fabric, rubber, and metallic equipment. Operate and perform minor maintenance on sewing machines, punch presses, stenciling machines, and other similar equipment. Perform inspections and repair of cargo, deceleration, and extraction parachutes, and is responsible for certification. Perform Joint Airdrop Inspections as the aerial load inspector. Perform technical order compliance modifications and modifications of parachutes and related items. Perform other duties as assigned.
