Summary

This is a National Guard Title 32 Excepted Service Position. This is a Permanent OPTICAL INSTRUMENT REPAIRER (TITLE 32), Position Description Number D1211000 and is part of the MO Combined Support Maintenance Shop.

Duties

Repairs, modifies, overhauls, inspects, troubleshoots, tests, adjusts, and cleans the optics and supporting mechanical and electrical elements of complex panoramic telescopes. Visually inspects optical instrument equipment and operates mechanisms to determine serviceability, damaged or worn parts, and malfunctions. Disassembles equipment; examines for serviceability using precision measuring instruments and special tools; checks lenses and prisms for aberrations. Replaces worn or defective parts; reassembles, adjusts, and tests for alignment, collimation, and operations. Interprets and applies special modifications in accordance with prescribed Modification Work Orders (MWO'S). Inspects, cleans and makes minimal repairs to the more complex optical devices such as ballistic computing range-finders; L.A.S.E.R. range finders and designators hermetically sealed. Inspects full field coincidence image fire control range-finders; and articulated telescopes containing offset prism assemblies, eyepiece assemblies, articulated joint assemblies and erector assemblies. Abides by safety precautions when working with compressors, hoses, and tank testing equipment. Analyzes and tests continuity of electrical circuits by utilizing test equipment such as ohmmeter, voltmeter, and multi-voltage test set. Required to inspect, diagnose, and repair high voltage power sources used with night vision devices, aware of the hazards involved in checking high voltage circuits. Troubleshoots and makes on-the-spot corrections, repairs, and adjustments when possible. Instructs unit personnel in the proper operation and maintenance procedures for care, use, adjustment, and storage of equipment being inspected. Performs other duties as assigned.
