What You'll Be Doing
Volunteers play an important role in supporting daily operations in our stores and warehouses. Tasks vary each day and may include:
- Sorting, hanging, and organizing clothing.
- Restocking racks and shelves to keep sales floors inviting and accessible.
- Sorting donated items to help move products efficiently through our system.
- Keeping store and work areas clean and orderly, including restrooms.
- Pitching in with other tasks as needed to support the day's operations.
Skills & Physical Requirements
Volunteering at Goodwill is active, hands‑on, and rewarding. Volunteers must be able to:
- Follow directions and work cooperatively under supervision.
- Stand for extended periods of time.
- Move independently, including stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling.
- Perform repetitive tasks with care and attention.
- Interact with others in a polite, professional, and respectful manner.
- Follow all safety guidelines to ensure a safe work environment.
If you have concerns about performing any of these activities, we encourage you to speak with the Volunteer Coordinator before your shift so we can help set you up for success.
Time Commitment & Timesheets
- A minimum commitment of three (3) to four (4) hours per visit is recommended.
- Volunteers who need to track hours are responsible for maintaining their own timesheets.
- Timesheets must be kept with you and signed daily by the Manager on Duty.
- Verification letters for volunteer or community service hours cannot be provided without a signed timesheet.
Dress Code
As a Goodwill volunteer, you represent our organization and help create a safe, welcoming environment. Please follow these guidelines:
- No tank tops.
- No shorts.
- No blue jeans or denim.
- No open‑toed shoes, sandals, or flip‑flops.
- Sneakers or other closed, tied shoes are strongly recommended.
- Wear a plain, solid‑colored shirt.
- Clothing with vulgar language or images is not permitted.
- Wear long slacks in any solid color.
- Women may wear capris‑length pants.
Other Important Information
- Cellphones: Cellphones are not permitted in stores for employees or volunteers. Please share the store phone number with family members in case of emergency. Phones may be checked during breaks. If left in your vehicle, be sure your car is locked. Volunteers serving extended hours may bring a lock and request a locker for personal belongings.
- Workers' Compensation: Individuals currently on Workers' Compensation leave from another employer are not eligible to volunteer.
