The Opportunity
The Senior MES Developer is responsible for the design, development, implementation, integration, and support of Manufacturing Execution System (MES) solutions that enable manufacturing operations, traceability, regulatory compliance, and digital transformation initiatives across Abbott manufacturing facilities. This position provides technical expertise in MES application development, equipment integrations, enterprise system integrations, cloud technologies, database solutions, and software engineering best practices supporting regulated medical device manufacturing environments.
Core Job Responsibilities
- Design, develop, enhance, and maintain Manufacturing Execution System (MES) applications supporting manufacturing, testing, electronic device history records (eDHR), serialization, genealogy, and traceability requirements for regulated medical device products.
- Design, configure, and support Rockwell FactoryTalk ProductionCentre (FTPC) applications and related MES technologies.
- Develop and maintain integrations between MES platforms and enterprise applications including SAP ERP, SAP MII, LIMS, PLM, Labeling Systems, Quality Management Systems, Learning Management Systems, and other manufacturing applications.
- Design, develop, document, and support RESTful APIs, SOAP web services, and event-driven integrations using modern integration frameworks and middleware technologies.
- Develop and maintain communication interfaces between MES systems, PLCs, SCADA systems, manufacturing equipment, vision systems, printers, and automation platforms.
- Design, develop, and support Java, C#, and web-based applications used within manufacturing operations and plant floor environments.
- Create and maintain Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server database solutions, including data models, stored procedures, views, functions, performance tuning, and reporting solutions.
- Support deployment and operation of MES applications in on-premises and cloud environments including Azure and corporate cloud platforms.
- Collaborate with manufacturing engineers, automation engineers, quality engineers, business analysts, validation teams, and software architects to define and implement technical solutions.
- Develop technical specifications, solution architecture documents, integration designs, and software design documentation.
- Troubleshoot and resolve application, database, infrastructure, and integration issues impacting manufacturing operations.
- Conduct technical investigations and root cause analysis efforts for production incidents and system issues.
- Conduct code reviews and mentor junior developers on software engineering best practices, design patterns, and coding standards.
- Ensure compliance with Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), Computer System Validation (CSV), FDA regulations, 21 CFR Part 11, data integrity requirements, cybersecurity policies, and enterprise standards.
Education and Experience You’ll Bring
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or related field. Equivalent experience will also be considered.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of overall Information Technology experience.
- 2- 5 years of experience developing and supporting Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES).
- Strong experience with Rockwell FactoryTalk ProductionCentre (FTPC) or equivalent MES platforms.
- Experience developing applications using Java, C#, .NET, Spring Framework, or similar enterprise technologies.
- Experience designing and implementing REST APIs, SOAP Web Services, and enterprise integrations.
- Experience in integrating MES systems with SAP and other enterprise applications.
- Strong knowledge of Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server databases.
- Experience with manufacturing equipment integration, PLC communications, OPC technologies, and industrial automation systems.
- Experience implementing software within validated and regulated environments.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, electronic batch records, traceability, genealogy, and serialization.
- Experience troubleshooting complex production issues across applications, databases, infrastructure, and integrations.
- Knowledge of cybersecurity principles and secure software development practices.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with source control systems, CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and automated deployments.
- Experience with SQL performance tuning, database design, and data integration solutions.
- Understanding of the business processes related to Manufacturing and Supply Chain
- Experience with Shop floor, equipment integration, Program logic control (PLC) programming.

The base pay for this position is
$90,000.00 – $180,000.00In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
