The Opportunity

This position works out of our Plymouth, MN location in the SH division.

Our business purpose is to restore health and improve quality of life by designing and providing device and management solutions for treating structural heart disease.


The Engineer will contribute to the design, development, verification, and maintenance of software systems supporting innovative medical device products. This role provides an opportunity to work across the software development lifecycle, including software implementation, verification and validation, automated testing, system integration, and regulatory compliance activities within a quality-driven environment.


The successful candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams including Systems Engineering, Quality, Regulatory Affairs, Cybersecurity, and Product Development to deliver safe and effective solutions that improve patient outcomes.


What You’ll Work On

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain software applications and system components.
  • Participate in software verification and validation activities, including unit, integration, and system-level testing.
  • Develop, execute, and document software test procedures and test results.
  • Contribute to software quality initiatives including code reviews, defect resolution, and process improvements.
  • Support development and maintenance of automated test solutions and continuous integration pipelines.
  • Participate in software requirements, design, risk management, and architecture reviews.
  • Assist in debugging software and system-level issues using appropriate development and diagnostic tools.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure software solutions meet functional, quality, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support software documentation activities throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Follow Abbott quality system procedures and software development processes.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 0-2 years of related work experience.
  • Strong programming skills in object-oriented software development.
  • Understanding of software development lifecycle methodologies and software testing practices.
  • Experience with source control and version management tools.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience developing software in C++ & C#.
  • Experience with GUI development frameworks such as Qt.
  • Familiarity with embedded Linux environments.
  • Knowledge of software verification and validation practices.
  • Experience with automated testing frameworks.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD tools and build automation.
  • Experience with Git and CMake.
  • Exposure to regulated industries such as medical devices, aerospace, or automotive.
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Python.
  • Understanding of cybersecurity principles and secure software development practices.

The base pay for this position is

$50,700.00 – $101,300.00
