What isĀ GraduateĀ ResearcherĀ Program?Ā 

The GRP (GraduateĀ ResearcherĀ Program) is aĀ uniqueĀ 10-12 weekĀ internship programĀ designedĀ specificallyĀ for students pursuing their PhD.Ā GRP is a hybrid experience of real-world industry work experience combined with development programming that exposes students to Boeing, its products,Ā servicesĀ and its people.Ā Ā GRP focuses on deeply connecting students to their teamĀ and BoeingĀ through work experience across multiple summersĀ with theĀ goalĀ ofĀ ultimatelyĀ offeringĀ a full-time position at the conclusion of academic studiesĀ if a mutual fit is achieved.Ā Ā

HowĀ GRPĀ Works:Ā 

GRP host teamsĀ postĀ intern requisitionsĀ aligned with Boeing’s strategic needs, aiming to matchĀ their needsĀ with top PhD talent. Once candidates apply and are selected, they receive an offer to spend the following summer working with their host team. The program is designed to give interns meaningful, hands-on experience at Boeing, allowing them to apply their academicĀ expertiseĀ while contributing to real-world industry challenges and opportunities.Ā 

In addition toĀ industryĀ workĀ exposure, students attend GRP programming toĀ furtherĀ broadenĀ their experience andĀ knowledgeĀ ofĀ Boeing.Ā Ā GRP programmingĀ componentsĀ include:Ā Ā mentorship in your field of study,Ā weeklyĀ Featured Speaker Talks, a week-long in-personĀ GRP Summit,Ā participation in anĀ Innovation Challenge,Ā and other opportunities toĀ interact and build a professional networkĀ withĀ other GRP students, Boeing team members,Ā andĀ BoeingĀ leadership.Ā

Who we are looking for:Ā Ā 

We are seeking students who will haveĀ completed theirĀ first year of studyĀ in their PhD program by July 2027Ā andĀ are passionate about the aerospace industry and Boeing. GRP students excel at quicklyĀ adapting to their roles, analyzing complex problems, and developing innovative solutions. They thrive in collaborative team environments andĀ possessĀ excellent communication skills.Ā Above all, theyĀ are driven to contribute to the success of their team, fellow GRP students, and Boeing.Ā 

2027Ā GRP Position:Ā 

The Applied Mathematics group at Boeing is the company’s most concentrated community of mathematicians, driving innovation across the enterprise through advanced research, algorithm development, and technical consulting.Ā Ā 

As part of Engineering & Technology Innovation (E&TI), the team appliesĀ cutting‑edgeĀ mathematical methods—including geometry optimization, computational modeling, machine learning, and statistical analysis—to solve complex aerospace challenges and shape future capabilities. The Applied Mathematics team collaboratesĀ across multidisciplinary engineering domains, translatesĀ theoretical concepts into robust algorithmic implementations, and influencesĀ the adoption of mathematical tools that enable safer, more efficient, and more advanced aerospace systems.Ā Ā 

The successful candidate will gainĀ hands‑onĀ experience developing novel mathematical solutions, contributing to research proposals, and transitioning technical insights into impactful models, software, andĀ decision‑makingĀ tools used across Boeing.Ā 

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.Ā  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position must meet U.S. export control compliance requirements. To meet U.S. export control compliance requirements, a ā€œU.S. Personā€ as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.62 is required.Ā  ā€œU.S. Personā€ includes U.S. Citizen, U.S. National, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Job Related Information /Ā BasicĀ Qualifications:Ā 

  • Completed the first year of PhD studies by July 2027

  • Ability to work full-time for 10-12 weeks during Summer 2027 Ā 

  • Pursuing a PhD in Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Computational Science, Engineering, Data Science, MachineĀ LearningĀ or a closely related fieldĀ 

  • Strong background in statistics, numerical methods, and data analytics;Ā demonstratedĀ ability to apply mathematical methods to real-world problemsĀ 

  • Experience with designing and analyzing experiments or simulations, and with uncertainty quantification and probabilistic modelingĀ 

  • ProficiencyĀ in programming for data analysis and scientific computing (e.g., Python, R, C/C++).Ā 

  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences

Preferred Qualifications:Ā Ā 

  • Familiarity with software for scientific computing or simulation (e.g.,Ā numpy/scipy,Ā PyTorch/TensorFlow/ML frameworks, JAX, and/or domain-specific tools) is helpful but notĀ requiredĀ 

  • Experience with building andĀ validatingĀ predictive models, simulations, and data-analysis workflows with real-world aerospace datasetsĀ 

  • Knowledge of uncertainty quantification methods (e.g., Bayesian inference, surrogate modeling, polynomial chaos, Gaussian processes)Ā 

  • Experience with high-performance computing, parallel processing, or scalable data pipelines.Ā 

  • Familiarity with optimization, decision analytics, and digital twin conceptsĀ 

  • Experience with one or more of the following: statistics software (R), scientific computing libraries (NumPy/SciPy), and programming in Python or RĀ 

  • Exposure to multi-disciplinaryĀ orĀ multi-physicsĀ modeling is a plus but notĀ requiredĀ
