Peraton is seeking a Web Designer in our Linthicum, MD office in support of our Department of Defense (DoD) customer as part of a highly talented, highly motivated, and high-performing team. The Web Designer is responsible for creating visually appealing, user-friendly, and accessible web designs for websites, web applications, SharePoint, social media, and other digital interfaces. This role requires a strong understanding of user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) principles, graphic design, and web technologies. The successful candidate will be a creative and collaborative individual with a passion for creating intuitive and engaging online experiences that meet the specific needs of DoW/AF personnel and the public. This position works closely with developers, content creators, and stakeholders to ensure the design aligns with project requirements and DoW/AF standards. 

 

Responsibilities: 

Design & Development: 

  • Design and develop visually appealing and user-friendly website and web application interfaces, adhering to established style guides and branding guidelines. 
  • Create wireframes, mockups, and prototypes to effectively communicate design ideas and user flows. 
  • Develop user interface (UI) elements and components that are consistent across different platforms and devices. 
  • Translate user needs and business requirements into intuitive and functional designs. 
  • Ensure designs are responsive and optimized for various screen sizes (desktop, tablet, mobile). 

User Experience (UX) Research & Design: 

  • Conduct user research and analysis to understand user needs, behaviors, and goals. 
  • Develop user personas, journey maps, and user flows to inform design decisions. 
  • Conduct usability testing and gather feedback to improve the user experience. 
  • Apply UX principles to create intuitive and engaging interfaces that are easy to navigate and use.  

Graphic Design & Visual Communication: 

  • Create high-quality graphics, icons, and other visual elements to enhance the user experience. 
  • Maintain brand consistency across all digital assets. 
  • Ensure all visual elements are optimized for web performance. 
  • Develop infographics and other visual aids to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner. 

Accessibility: 

  • Design websites and web applications that are accessible to users with disabilities, adhering to accessibility standards such as WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines). 
  • Ensure all designs meet Section 508 compliance requirements. 
  • Conduct accessibility testing and remediation. 

Collaboration & Communication: 

  • Collaborate with developers, content creators, and stakeholders to ensure design aligns with project requirements and technical feasibility. 
  • Present design concepts and solutions to stakeholders in a clear and persuasive manner. 
  • Gather and incorporate feedback from stakeholders to refine designs. 
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to the overall success of the project. 

Other Duties: 

  • Stay abreast of the latest web design trends and technologies. 
  • Maintain a portfolio of design work. 
  • Contribute to the development of design guidelines and standards. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications

Qualifications: 

Required: 

  • Education/Experience: Minimum of 10 years experience with Associate's degree; Minimum of 8 years experience with Bachelor's degree; Minimum of 6 years experience with Master's degree; Minimum of 3 years experience with PhD. A degree in one of these fields is highly desired: Graphic Design, Web Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), or a related field. However, four years of additional relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of a Bachelor's degree. 
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, XD). 
    • Strong understanding of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. 
    • Experience with content management systems (CMS) such as AFPIMS, AWS, or similar. 
    • Experience with wireframing and prototyping tools (e.g., Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD). 
    • Knowledge of responsive design principles and techniques. 
    • Understanding of accessibility standards and guidelines (WCAG). 
  • Portfolio: A strong online portfolio demonstrating a variety of web design projects and showcasing design skills, ideally in the DoW or military environments. 
  • Security Clearance: Active Top Secret/SCI eligible. 
  • Certifications: Active CompTIA Security+, or CASP+, or UX-PM Certification, or TOGAF .
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. 
  • Teamwork Skills: Ability to work effectively in a team environment. 
  • DoW Experience: Familiarity with DoW policies, procedures, and IT infrastructure is a plus. 

 

Preferred: 

  • Experience with user research methodologies (e.g., user interviews, surveys, usability testing). 
  • Experience with A/B testing and data analysis. 
  • Experience with design systems. 
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity principles and best practices. 
  • Experience working in a secure development environment. 
  • Familiarity with Section 508 compliance requirements. 
  • Certifications related to web design, UX, or accessibility

Target Salary Range

$135,000 - $216,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
