The Lead Product Manager - Technical works with relevant Humana stakeholders to create, prioritize, and manage product iteration backlogs, ensuring solutions meet Technology and Humana standards while delivering maximum value to customers and end users. This role advises executives and senior leaders in developing functional and business strategies on matters of significant impact and exercises independent judgment in managing complex initiatives, balancing strategic objectives, operational priorities, and technology investments with minimal supervision.
As a key member of the Agile delivery organization, the Lead Product Manager - Technical is responsible for defining product vision, strategy, and roadmap priorities while translating business and customer needs into deliverable increments of value. Within Humana's Pharmacy Modernization initiative, this role leads the evolution of enterprise pharmacy capabilities across multiple lines of business and value streams, transforming fragmented processes and legacy solutions into scalable, reusable platform capabilities. Working across business, operations, architecture, engineering, and vendor teams, the Lead Product Manager drives modernization efforts through workflow innovation, automation, and technology enablement while ensuring alignment with enterprise standards and strategic objectives. Success in this role requires strong product leadership, cross-functional collaboration, technical acumen, and a relentless focus on delivering measurable business outcomes, operational efficiency, resiliency, and enhanced customer experiences.
Key Responsibilities
Product Strategy & Roadmap Leadership
- Define and communicate product vision, strategy, roadmaps, and modernization priorities for enterprise pharmacy capabilities and platform services.
- Partner with business, operations, and technology leaders to translate strategic objectives, customer needs, and operational challenges into prioritized capabilities and product investments.
- Establish value hypotheses, business outcomes, success measures, and key performance indicators (KPIs) aligned to organizational goals.
Product Ownership & Agile Delivery
- Own, maintain, and prioritize the product backlog to maximize business value and support continuous delivery of modernization outcomes.
- Define and refine epics, features, user stories, and acceptance criteria in collaboration with stakeholders, architects, and engineering teams.
- Balance strategic platform investments, regulatory requirements, operational commitments, and evolving business priorities.
- Ensure delivered solutions meet Humana technology standards, quality expectations, and customer needs.
Pharmacy Modernization Leadership
- Lead product strategy and execution for modernized pharmacy capabilities and shared platform services across multiple lines of business.
- Drive workflow transformation, automation, and process simplification initiatives that improve operational efficiency, transparency, and customer outcomes.
- Partner with architecture and engineering teams to advance reusable, API-first, event-driven, and cloud-enabled capabilities that support long-term modernization goals.
- Guide the retirement and modernization of legacy systems through scalable product and platform strategies.
Cross-Functional Leadership & Governance
- Build alignment across business, operations, technology, architecture, engineering, and vendor organizations.
- Lead product reviews, roadmap planning sessions, backlog prioritization discussions, and capability planning activities.
- Manage cross-team dependencies, resolve competing priorities, and ensure initiatives remain aligned with enterprise architecture standards and modernization objectives.
- Influence decision-making at multiple levels of the organization through data-driven recommendations and product expertise.
Outcome & Value Realization
- Define, monitor, and report on KPIs related to operational efficiency, reliability, cycle time, automation, platform adoption, and customer experience.
- Measure and communicate value realization through workflow simplification, productivity gains, resiliency improvements, and legacy modernization outcomes.
- Drive continuous improvement and scale successful platform capabilities and modernization patterns across the pharmacy ecosystem.
Required Competencies
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field.
- 8+ years of product management experience within complex enterprise technology environments.
- 2+ years of product leadership experience leading cross-functional teams and driving strategic product initiatives.
- Strong experience in product management within complex enterprise technology environments.
- Demonstrated ability to lead large-scale modernization, platform, or digital transformation initiatives.
- Experience working within Agile product delivery teams and managing complex product backlogs.
- Ability to influence and collaborate across business, operational, architecture, engineering, and vendor organizations.
- Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and decision-making skills with a focus on measurable business outcomes.
- Knowledge of healthcare, pharmacy operations, or regulated industries preferred.

- Proven experience defining product strategy, developing roadmaps, managing product backlogs, and leading modernization initiatives for complex enterprise products, platforms, or capabilities.
- Strong understanding of healthcare, pharmacy, customer service, fulfillment, operational processing, or related business functions, with the ability to translate business and operational needs into scalable technology solutions.
- Demonstrated experience gathering and translating business requirements into capabilities, features, user stories, and measurable business outcomes.
- Expertise in business capability modeling, process design, workflow optimization, and operational transformation initiatives.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with experience leveraging data analysis and data models in high-volume, transaction-oriented, and compliance-driven environments.
- Knowledge of modern technology architectures and integration patterns, including APIs, microservices, event-driven architectures, workflow orchestration, and cloud-native platforms.
- Hands-on experience working within Agile delivery environments, including product backlog management, backlog refinement, sprint planning, and collaboration with cross-functional delivery teams.
- Demonstrated ability to influence and align business, operations, engineering, architecture, security, and vendor stakeholders around common goals and prioritized outcomes.
- Experience leading cross-functional teams through ambiguity, managing dependencies, resolving competing priorities, and driving execution across complex enterprise initiatives.
- Strong communication, facilitation, stakeholder management, negotiation, and executive presentation skills.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and make strategic decisions on complex business and technology challenges with minimal supervision.
