About the OrganizationĀ 

At AV (AutonomousĀ Vehicles) Software Organization within General Motors, we are working on developingĀ cutting-edgeĀ ADASĀ and AV features for next-generation vehicles.Ā Ā As theĀ ADAS/AV Platform Software Verification Engineer, you will play a crucial role in defining, implementing, andĀ optimizingĀ system testing to ensure the quality, safety, and reliability of theĀ ADASĀ platform software.Ā 

This is anĀ early-careerĀ / new graduate role designed for candidatesĀ who have recently or will be completing their degree by June 2026.Ā 

WhatĀ You’llĀ Do (Responsibilities)Ā 

  • Support the design, implementation, and execution ofĀ software verificationĀ for the AV/ADAS platform across HIL, SIL, and VIL environments.Ā 

  • Run andĀ monitorĀ system and integration tests, analyze diagnostics from a full-vehicle perspective, and help triage and debug AV Platform software issues.Ā 

  • AssistĀ in building,Ā maintaining, and improvingĀ test environments and automation frameworksĀ to increase coverage, reliability, and execution speed.Ā 

  • Help ensure tests align with relevantĀ safety and regulatory standardsĀ (e.g., ISO 26262, SOTIF, FMVSS 111, FMVSS 127) and contribute to improving test metrics and coverage.Ā 

  • Collaborate withĀ Software Infrastructure, application, and Hardware teamsĀ to reproduce issues, gather logs, and support root-cause analysis for Linux/QNX-based AV Platform software.Ā 

  • Participate inĀ failure analysisĀ activities (e.g., FMEA, root-cause investigations using Ishikawa/Fishbone analysis, A-B-A testing) and document findings in a clear, structured way.Ā 

  • Contribute to continuous improvement ofĀ test cases, tooling, and processesĀ by incorporating feedback from senior engineers and cross-functional partners.Ā

Required Qualifications (Minimum)Ā 

  • Currently pursuing, or recently completed, a Bachelor's orĀ Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical fieldĀ 

  • Experience with at least one programming language such as Python, C, or C++, through coursework, internships, research, or personal projectsĀ 

  • Basic understanding of software testing concepts such as test cases, regression testing, and test automationĀ 

  • Familiarity with Linux development environments through classwork, labs, internships, or projectsĀ 

  • Exposure to vehicle or networked systems, including basic knowledge of CAN or EthernetĀ 

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skillsĀ 

  • Clear written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work well on cross-functional teamsĀ

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)Ā 

  • Hands-on experience withĀ HIL/SIL/VIL test environments, simulation benches, or lab-based embedded test setups.Ā 

  • Experience developingĀ test automationĀ using Python or similar scripting languages; familiarity with frameworks such asĀ Robot Framework, or tools likeĀ CAPLĀ andĀ Vehicle Spy.Ā 

  • Exposure toĀ embedded Linux or QNX-based systems, and/or real-time operating systems (RTOS); familiarity withĀ ROSĀ in robotics or autonomy projects is a plus.Ā 

  • Experience withĀ network and vehicle debugging toolsĀ such as Wireshark,Ā CANoe/CANalyzer, INCA, or similar instrumentation platforms.Ā 

  • Basic understanding ofĀ automotive communication protocols and diagnostics,Ā such as CAN, Ethernet, SOME/IP, DDS, and UDS/ISO 14229.Ā 

  • Familiarity withĀ functional safety and safety-of-the-intended-functionalityĀ (SOTIF)Ā concepts or standards (e.g., ISO 26262, SOTIF), gained through coursework or projects.Ā 

  • Internship, research, or project experience in automotive, robotics, autonomy, or real-time systemsĀ

AdditionalĀ RequirementsĀ Ā 

  • May require aĀ valid driver’s licenseĀ and the ability toĀ operateĀ test vehicles as part of certain validation activities.Ā 

  • Occasional travel betweenĀ Milford Proving GroundĀ andĀ GM Global Technical Center – WarrenĀ and/or other GM sites may beĀ requiredĀ for bench, lab, or vehicle testing.Ā 

  • Ability to work inĀ lab, bench, and vehicle environments,Ā including time on or around test vehicles and HIL/VIL benches.Ā
