The Head of Core Banking Platforms ā Hogan &Ā ZafinĀ is responsible forĀ the strategy, delivery, andĀ operational excellenceĀ of the bankās coreĀ HoganĀ deposit platform andĀ ZafinĀ product/pricing platform. These systems form the backbone of the bankās deposit, product, pricing, and customer account ecosystem, supportingĀ millions of accounts and high-volume transactionsĀ 24/7. The role demandsĀ enterprise-scale leadership, ensuring always-on platform performance and data integrity, while spearheadingĀ large-scale modernization and transformationĀ initiatives (such as API enablement, event-driven architecture, and mainframe optimization). This leader will drive a strongĀ risk and control disciplineĀ and talent development agenda, engaging across business and technology to shape the future of core banking platforms.Ā

Responsibilities:Ā
Platform Strategy & Ownership:Ā Provide end-to-endĀ strategic leadership and accountabilityĀ for the Hogan core banking andĀ ZafinĀ pricing platforms, covering deposit processing, customer master data, rates, fees, billing, and rewards.Ā
Operational Resilience:Ā EnsureĀ 24x7 platform stability, resiliency, security, and data integrityĀ across real-time, batch, and event-driven processing environments. Oversee rigorous incident management, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement to meet or exceedĀ SLAĀ and uptime targets.Ā
Modernization & Innovation:Ā Drive core platform modernizationĀ efforts (e.g., API enablement, event streaming integration, mainframe optimization) to improve agility and scalability whileĀ maintainingĀ seamless serviceĀ for customers.Ā
Leadership & Team Development:Ā Lead, mentor, and transform aĀ global engineering organization (~150ā200 engineers and partner resources), fostering a high-performance culture of accountability, inclusion, and engineering excellence.Ā
Stakeholder & Cross-Functional Engagement:Ā Partner closely with Product, Operations, Risk, Compliance, Finance, and Audit teams to align platform capabilities with business goals.Ā Ensure strong risk management and regulatoryĀ compliance, andĀ serve as a key escalation point during high-impact platform issues.Ā
Vendor & Financial Management:Ā Manage third-party vendor relationships (e.g., core system providers),Ā negotiate contracts and commercial outcomes, and oversee budget and resource allocation, balancing ārunā operations with strategic āchangeā investments.Ā
Executive Communication:Ā RegularlyĀ report on platform health, performance, and riskĀ to senior leadership and governance forums. Articulate technology strategy, key risks, and mitigation plans in clear business terms for executive and board-level audiences.Ā

Basic SkillsĀ
- Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experienceĀ Ā
- 12 or more years of relevant software engineering experienceĀ Ā
- Eight or more years of experience leading multiple software engineering teamsĀ Ā

Preferred SkillsĀ
Extensive Leadership ExperienceĀ in technology, withĀ 10+ years in financial servicesĀ leading large-scale, mission-critical platforms. Proven success managingĀ large global engineering teams (100+ staff)Ā andĀ operatingĀ at an executive (SVP/Director) level.Ā
Core Banking Expertise:Ā Deep knowledge ofĀ core banking systemsĀ (deposits, pricing, rates, fees) and high-volume transaction processing.Ā Experience with HoganĀ mainframe-based cores andĀ ZafinĀ or similar Tier-1 banking platforms strongly preferred.Ā
Operational & Risk Excellence:Ā DemonstratedĀ ability to ensureĀ 24x7 system availabilityĀ andĀ operational rigorĀ in highly regulated environments. Adept atĀ incident response, root-cause analysis, and risk management, with a strongĀ track recordĀ of meeting compliance and audit standards.Ā
Strategic Modernization:Ā ProvenĀ track recordĀ ofĀ driving multi-year, enterprise-scaleĀ modernizationĀ or transformation initiatives (e.g., API adoption, event streaming integration, cloud enablement) while balancing strategic vision with hands-on execution.Ā
Financial & Governance Acumen:Ā Experience managingĀ large technology budgetsĀ and complex portfolios, making disciplined decisions on investment prioritization. Comfortable engaging inĀ formal governance, steering committees, and financial reviewsĀ to justify andĀ optimizeĀ platform investments.Ā
People & Culture Leadership:Ā ExceptionalĀ people leadershipĀ skills ā able to develop senior engineering leaders, build a culture of accountability and innovation, and ensureĀ leadership continuityĀ through succession planning and talent development.Ā
Cross-Functional Influence:Ā Highly effective atĀ influencing and collaboratingĀ acrossĀ product, operations, finance, risk, and vendor partners. ExcellentĀ communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts in clear, business-oriented language to executive and non-technical audiences.Ā

The salary range reflects figures based on the primary location, which is listed first. The actual range for the role may differ based on the location of the role. In addition to salary, U.S. Bank offers a comprehensive benefits package, including incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase 401(k) contribution and pension (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). Pay Range: $186,150.00 - $219,000.00U.S. Bank will consider qualified applicants with arrest or conviction records for employment.
