Responsibilities
Peraton is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented AWS Cloud Engineer to join our Team, becoming responsible for ensuring the performance, reliability, and scalability of critical platforms that support data-driven decision-making across the organization.
This person will provide day-to-day customer application support, maintain infrastructure, monitor systems, resolve incidents, while implementing automation to improve operational efficiency. They will also collaborate with data engineers, analysts, and other cross-functional teams to troubleshoot issues and deliver secure, scalable solutions.
This role requires strong AWS DevOps expertise, application support experience, problem-solving skills, and a proactive approach to optimizing our analytics infrastructure.

What You Will Do:
- Design and build AWS cloud infrastructure using IaC (Terraform) and CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI)
- Guide ADTs on cloud solution patterns, deployment strategies, and architecture decisions; able to influence design choices and align stakeholders
- Own automation end-to-end; from IaC authorship to pipeline design to production operations
- Participate in on-call rotation and contribute to observability/monitoring practices
- Provide technical support and guidance to AWS and managed service users
- Design, deploy, and maintain secure, scalable, and highly available AWS cloud infrastructure.
- Monitor AWS environments, identify performance or availability issues, and troubleshoot and resolve incidents.
- Collaborate with development, security, and infrastructure teams to implement cloud solutions, improve reliability, and follow AWS best practices.
- Maintain configuration documentation, diagrams and SOP's for all environments
- Perform backups, regularly scheduled upgrades and maintenance activities during the maintenance window
- Monitor for security vulnerabilities and perform ad-hoc upgrades and maintenance as required
- Support audit activities by providing logs, reports, and system configurations
- Manage and support AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM), including roles, policies, permissions, and access controls, to maintain secure and compliant cloud environments.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
- U.S. Citizenship required with the ability to obtain and maintain the required Public Trust level clearance.
- Must be willing to undergo a pre-employment credit check as required by the Customer.
- Bachelors Degree and 8 years of experience; a Masters Degree and 6 years of experience, or a High School Diploma or equivalent and 12 years of experience
- Deep, hands-on knowledge of AWS architecture, networking (e.g., VPCs, routing), security (e.g., IAM & Resource Policies, encryption ), serverless/microservice architectures, and containerization (e.g., ECS, Docker, Kubernetes)
- Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code (IAC), specifically utilizing advanced Terraform skills
- Proven experience designing and maintaining GitLab CI/CD pipelines, including reusable/shared components for enterprise-scale delivery
- Hands-on experience monitoring, analyzing, and troubleshooting SaaS application logs
- Strong scripting skills Python and Bash, Ansible experience is plus
- Proficient in configuration management, observability (CloudWatch, Grafana), reliability, and disaster recovery practices. Proficient in the design, development, build, deployment, troubleshooting, and maintenance cloud engineering processes using automation tooling (e.g.,Terraform, Python, GitLab CI) for AWS workloads
- Strong Git proficiency, including common branching/release strategies (GitFlow, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications
- Runners, as well as Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as CloudFormation
- Experience with PowerShell, Bash, or JavaScript/Node.js or other scripting languages to automate, troubleshoot and resolve issues
- Experience with incident management, root cause analysis, and resolving high-priority incidents in large, multi-tenant environments.
- Exemplary communication, analytical skills, and technical knowledge across the client environment.
- Experience working in an Agile environment

Target Salary Range
$104,000 - $166,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
