Duties

This Registered Nurse position is located in the Emergency Department for the Nursing Acute Care Service line at the VA Boston Healthcare System, West Roxbury MA location. VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package: VA Nurse Total Rewards Duties include, but are not limited to: Manages workload as assigned, organizes and completes own assignments in an efficient and appropriate manner; Participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of interdisciplinary care; Establishes a therapeutic relationship, allowing the patient to attain, maintain or regain optimal function through assessment and treatment; Engages patients, families, and other caregivers to incorporate knowledge, values, and beliefs into care planning without judgement or discrimination; Knowledgeable of ethical issues related to professional nursing practice and follows established policies of the practice setting, VA, and ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses; Aware of high reliability principles to deliver consistent care and improve patient outcomes; Participates in unit based educational activities and continuing education requirements; Responsible for maintaining competency to continue personal and professional growth; Applies evidence-based practice/research to patient care; Participates in unit-based activities to improve and deliver cost effective patient care; Demonstrates knowledge of specific unit level performance improvement activities; Incorporates patient preferences into shared care delivery decisions; Other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: 7:30pm-8:00am, or 11:30pm-8:00am Compressed/Flexible: Available Telework: Not Available Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Pay: Competitive salary, regular salary increases, potential for performance awards Paid Time Off: 50 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory Relocation/Recruitment Incentives: Not Authorized Permanent Change of Station (PCS): Not Authorized PCS Appraised Value Offer (AVO): Not authorized Notifications: This is a not Bargaining Unit Position This position is in the Excepted Service This position is covered by locality-based comparability pay. Current and former Federal employees must submit copies of their most recent SF-50, (Notice of Personnel Action). The SF-50 must identify the position title, series, grade, step, tenure and type of service (Competitive or Excepted). In some cases, more than one SF-50 may be required to show a higher grade previously held. For internal selectees being promoted, the grade and step will be determined in accordance with policy. Veterans preference does not apply for other current permanent Federal agency employees. May be subject to satisfactory completion of our credentialing process. Preferred Experience: Minimum of one year acute care experience. Urgent Care or Emergency Room experience preferred.

Requirements

U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
