Registered Nurse-Interventional Radiology

Summary

The Miami VA Healthcare System's Nursing Service is seeking an experienced and dynamic RN Interventional Radiology. Our ideal applicants are those who want to contribute to the achievement of quality care standards, as well as the growth and development of a VA academic hospital program.

Duties

The Interventional Radiology (IR) Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing competent, evidence-based care to assigned patients and oversight of licensed vocational nurses/nursing assistants, as appropriate to the setting. The nurse will assist in directing the provision of nursing education, orientation, competencies and providing quality improvement and outcomes utilization consultation. Demonstrates leadership in delivering and improving holistic care through collaborative strategies with others. He/She is responsible for a sustained high level of clinical practice using the nursing process while working effectively with professional and supportive personnel who provide patient care. The nurse plans; organizes; and when appropriate, directs and supervises the activities of others to complete assignments in a safe and timely manner. The nurse demonstrates excellent communication skills and the ability to develop and maintain effective interpersonal relationships. Duties include but are not limited to: Administer moderate sedation, monitoring patient vital signs, maintain accurate documentation, and provide patient education. IR nurses rotate to CT, MRI and Special Procedures Area. Reviews charts of patients scheduled for contrast, contacts patient and documents in CPRS. Reviews chart for allergies, laboratory results and risk factors. Coordinates for moderate sedation, contacts providers for Consult to anesthesia service and coordinates clearance with pre-op nurse. Assists with sedation cases, setting up monitor and equipment, set up of infusion pump. Assists the interventional radiologist as assigned, to monitor the patient during procedures. Assesses, evaluates, and educates patients pre-procedure (Allergies/Metformin). Follows CT Scan contrast guidelines for patient with low eGFR and coordinates IV hydration. Reviews MRI questionnaire with patient, obtains vital signs, inserts and discontinues peripheral vein access as needed. Performs POC/ISTAT as needed and notifies radiologist and provider of abnormal results. Notifies technologist of patient's metal/stent for review by radiologist in MRI. Coordinates patient care emergencies arising from contrast media reactions, seizures, respiratory and cardiac emergencies, and other unexpected events, initiates life-saving procedures according to policy and ACLS guidelines. Provides open line of communication between the imaging department, patient care units, and patient care services. Performs the duties of recording, circulating, and monitoring patients in all phases of the invasive procedure.
