Summary
**RECRUITMENT/RELOCATION INCENTIVE MAY BE AUTHORIZED FOR HIGHLY QUALIFIED CANDIDATES.** The Chief of Sterile Processing Service (SPS) is a direct report to the Associate Director for Patient Care Services (ADPCS) of the VAPIHCS. This position is characterized by responsibility and accountability for all elements of nursing process when providing oversight and direction for aspects of SPS across the organization and assessing outcomes.
Duties
Major Duties include but are not limited to the following: Plays a leadership role in ongoing systematic evaluation and improvement of quality and effectiveness of Sterile Processing Service (SPS) program outcomes. Provides health system-wide leadership for critical and semi-critical Reusable Medical Device (RMD), including sterile storage, reprocessing, standard operating procedures (SOP), competency assessment, selection, operation, and maintenance of reprocessing equipment, staff education program for RMDs, and quality management of SPS. Assesses, monitors, develops, and implements corrective action plans for instrument processing, decontamination, sterilization, storage, biological monitoring, and high-level disinfection monitoring through an SPS Quality Management System. Demonstrates leadership in developing and maintaining productive working relationships with groups in other medical programs and services across the spectrum of care, including, but not limited to Operative Care, Gastroenterology, ophthalmic surgical procedures, dental surgical procedures, Supply Chain Management (SCM), Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) surgical procedures, urological surgical procedures, and medical and surgical patient care areas. Executes leadership that is characterized by substantial and continuous responsibility and accountability for integrated programs that cross service and or discipline lines and influence organizational mission and safe, infection-free health care. Chairs the Hospital RMD Committee and provides reports to both Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN) and the National Program Office for Sterile Processing regularly. Functions as an advisor, administrator, educator, consultant, and mentor who possesses a wide range of experience and leadership ability. Supports the integration and collaboration of sterile processing with other professional disciplines and functional areas in the mutual achievement of patient-centered and organizational goals. Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members, including other program and service leaders at the facility and network. Requirements
