Duties
The Chief of Radiology reports directly to the Associate Chief of Staff, Clinical Support Services, who reports to the Chief of Staff. The Chief of Radiology will have a broad delegation of authority to operate autonomously. PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Provide leadership in direction for the radiology staff and its programs, to include diagnostic radiology, nuclear medicine, MRI, CT, and ultrasound. The Chief of Radiology Service, in conjunction with the Chief of Staff, is responsible for planning, developing, implementing, controlling, and refining a comprehensive program which provides services and technical support to meet clinical, procedural, legal and administrative requirements relating to the care and treatment of patients in a cost effective, efficient, and timely manner. Responsible for implementing VHA handbooks, Directives, policies and regulations governing a broad range of administrative aspects of the Medical Center. Participate as a member, lead or champion of process improvement teams and leadership committees such as Patient Aligned Care Team committees, Medical Executive Committee, Professional Standards Board, Peer Review Committee, etc. He or she is tasked with providing active leadership and decision making for strategic planning, the budget process, and performance improvement initiatives for the organization. Develops and administers a formal performance plan process for reviewing, appraising and continuously improving each phase of clinical and administrative activity. The incumbent is responsible for assuring that radiological services provided by this Medical Center meet the standards set by accrediting agencies to include The Joint Commission, Office of Inspectors General (OIG), SOARS, etc. The incumbent participates in the annual budget estimate for operation of his or her service and assists in the formulation of the Medical Center budget, including allocation of funds and recommendations to top management regarding staffing requirements, cost effective technological advances, equipment, projects, and supplies. Responsible for developing and implementing a viable, cost-effective organization which manages positions within FTEE and budget. Responsibility for personnel actions involving key subordinates and is responsible for effective employee/labor relations by coordinating with Human Resources. The incumbent is responsible for identifying training needs for subordinate employees and for ensuring the competency of staff for their selected positions. The incumbent will also ensure that services delivered are consistent with customer service needs and standards. Requirements
U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education
Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted. Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) for the year in which the degree was granted. For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, confirmation must be made that the medical school meets (or met) Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) eligibility requirement for year graduated. NOTE: The Under Secretary of Health or designee in the VHA Central Office may approve the appointment under authority of 38 U.S.C. 7405 of a physician graduate of a school of medicine not covered above if the candidate is to be assigned to a research, academic, or administrative position with no patient care responsibilities. The appointment will be made only in exceptional circumstances where the candidate's credentials clearly demonstrate high professional attainment or expertise in the specialty area.
