The Opportunity

 

We are seeking an experienced Senior Manager, Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) to lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of our division-wide EHS strategy. This leader will be responsible for driving a culture of safety excellence, environmental stewardship, regulatory compliance, and operational risk reduction across multiple Abbott Toxicology manufacturing, distribution, and office locations.

 

The Senior Manager, EHS will partner closely with Toxicology division executives, plant leadership teams, operations, engineering, quality, human resources, and external regulatory agencies to ensure EHS programs support both employee well-being and business performance. The ideal candidate combines strategic leadership with hands-on implementation capabilities and has a proven track record of reducing risk, improving safety performance, and leading organizational change in complex manufacturing environments.

 

This role sits in our Rapid Diagnostics Division’s Toxicology Business Unit. Abbott’s lifechanging tests and diagnostic tools give you accurate, timely information to better manage your health. We’re empowering smarter medical and economic decision making to help transform the way people manage their health at all stages of life. Every day, more than 10 million tests are run on Abbott’s diagnostics instruments, providing lab results for millions of people.  As a key leader within the organization, the Senior Manager, EHS will play a critical role in protecting our people, supporting operational excellence, and enabling the continued delivery of life-changing diagnostic products that positively impact lives worldwide.


 

What You’ll Work On

 

  • Lead the development, execution, and continuous improvement of EHS programs across all global Toxicology sites, ensuring alignment with corporate standards, business objectives, and regulatory requirements.
  • Establish and drive the Toxicology EHS strategy, priorities, and performance goals to advance safety excellence, environmental stewardship, and operational risk reduction.
  • Provide strategic leadership for Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene, and Ergonomics programs, integrating employee well-being into the broader EHS framework.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and strategic direction to a network of EHS professionals across Toxicology sites, influencing performance, capability development, and the consistent execution of EHS programs through strong partnership with site leadership.
  • Develop and implement standardized EHS policies, procedures, management systems, and training programs to ensure consistency and effectiveness across all Toxicology locations.
  • Drive continuous improvement in EHS performance through data analytics, leading and lagging indicators, audits, risk assessments, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Partner closely with Toxicology business leaders, operations, engineering, quality, and human resources to integrate EHS principles into daily operations and long-term business strategies.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with Corporate EHS, Legal, insurance providers, and regulatory agencies on EHS-related matters.
  • Lead investigations of serious incidents and high-potential events, ensuring robust root cause analysis, corrective actions, and sustainable risk mitigation measures.
  • Direct EHS compliance programs and ensure readiness for internal audits, regulatory inspections, and third-party assessments.
  • Oversee the development and execution of EHS-related capital projects and investments, ensuring resources are effectively allocated to reduce operational risk and strengthen compliance.
  • Manage capital planning and budgeting for division-wide EHS initiatives and strategic improvement projects.
  • Champion cultural transformation initiatives that embed safety, accountability, and sustainability into all levels of the organization.
  • Maintain accountability for division EHS plans, the effectiveness of site-level EHS procedures, and the implementation of key risk management initiatives across all Toxicology facilities.
  • Review and approve significant EHS program enhancements, organizational changes, and investment decisions within delegated authority while appropriately escalating enterprise-level risks and strategic decisions to corporate leadership.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health, Engineering, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive EHS experience, with at least 3 years in a multi-site or regional leadership role.
  • Demonstrated expertise in EHS regulations, compliance, and risk management.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills.
  • Ability to influence and collaborate across functions and levels.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing Occupational Health and Ergonomics programs preferred.
  • Travel up to 25%

$129,300.00 – $258,700.00
