A Day in the Life

This position is part of Medtronic's Diabetes business, focused on improving outcomes for people living with diabetes through innovative technologies, patient support, and access programs. The team partners across sales, reimbursement, customer support, and operational functions to help patients gain access to life-changing diabetes therapies and services.

Medtronic has announced its intention to separate the Diabetes business into a standalone company, subject to applicable legal and regulatory requirements. This planned separation is expected to create increased focus, investment, and agility within the Diabetes organization, supporting continued innovation and expanding the impact of our therapies, services, and solutions for patients worldwide.

This role is based in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and follows a Flex work model. During the onboarding period, regular on-site presence is expected to support training and integration with the team. The position supports patient access, billing operations, insurance verification, claims processing, and inside sales activities related to diabetes therapies.

         

         



The Inside Sales Representative, Patient Access, supports patient access, reimbursement, billing, and commercial activities related to diabetes therapies. This individual is responsible for processing billing transactions, validating insurance requirements, supporting benefit investigations, resolving reimbursement issues, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to help patients access and continue therapy. The role combines customer-facing interactions, operational execution, and commercial support within a highly regulated healthcare environment.



Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:

  • Process daily billing activities for diabetes equipment and supplies, ensuring accuracy and compliance with payer requirements
  • Verify insurance authorizations, medical documentation, eligibility, and billing information prior to claim submission
  • Resolve billing discrepancies, rejected claims, reimbursement issues, and revenue cycle exceptions
  • Manage payer benefit verification and authorization processes to support patient access to therapy.
  • Maintain current knowledge of payer coverage policies, reimbursement requirements, and authorization processes
  • Collaborate with Sales, Reimbursement, Finance, and Customer Service teams to address access barriers and improve patient outcomes
  • Support inside sales activities, including opportunity follow-up, patient retention efforts, and order coordination
  • Prepare and maintain productivity, billing, reimbursement, and operational performance reports

 

 

Required Knowledge and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree and 2+ years of experience in inside sales, reimbursement, billing, customer support, healthcare operations, or related business functions
  • Conversational English communication skills (minimum B2 level)
  • Experience working with medical insurance plans, reimbursement processes, patient access programs, or healthcare-related services
  • Experience supporting customers or patients through phone-based or remote interactions
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and business software applications

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Assertus or similar reimbursement and patient access platforms
  • Experience supporting diabetes therapies or durable medical equipment products
  • Demonstrated ability to identify process improvement opportunities and drive operational efficiencies

For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.
