As an Ophthalmic Technician, you will participate in the care of patients in a clinical setting. You will greet patients and explain what they should expect during their appointment, escort patients to exam rooms, and perform diagnostic ophthalmic tests and procedures before the physician sees them, including visual acuity, tonometry, and lensometry. You will also ensure accurate documentation and updates to patient charts and help maintain a clean and safe clinic environment, including sterilization and cleaning.

Schedule:

Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday | 8:00 AM–5:00 PM
Days may change based on business needs, but advance notice will be provided.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Interact with patients to accurately gather information and enter it into the electronic medical records (EMR) system.

  • Proactively engage patients by communicating what to expect during their visit and providing updates regarding delays or other changes.

  • Initiate and document the patient's chief complaint, present illness, and past medical history.

  • Accurately record all information in the EMR according to established standards and physician requirements.

  • Conduct tests and measure eye muscle function, pupil size, and reactivity.

  • Apply drops to anesthetize, dilate, or medicate eyes.

  • Assist with minor surgical procedures, intraocular injections, and laser treatments in exam or treatment rooms, including preparing patients for sterile procedures.

  • Educate patients regarding medication administration and pre- and post-operative instructions as directed by physicians.

  • Readily scribe for physicians.

  • Maintain patient confidentiality by completing and safeguarding medical records, completing diagnostic and procedure coding, and following all HIPAA requirements.

  • Utilize effective problem-solving skills to respectfully and efficiently de-escalate dissatisfied patients.

  • Demonstrate basic knowledge of eye anatomy, diseases, symptoms, and ocular medications.

  • Stay current with the latest technologies and medications and answer general patient questions.

  • Assist team members and complete other special projects as requested.

  • Maintain a clean and organized clinical environment, including sterilization and cleaning as needed.

What You Know

Required

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.

  • Valid driver's license and ability to drive a motor vehicle.

  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time and lift up to 50 lbs.

Desired

  • Electronic Medical Records (EMR) experience.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology.

  • Entry-level candidates are welcome.

  • Typically 0–3 years of experience.
