Job Description
ServiceNow is seeking a Manager, Technical Accounting, to join our Technical Accounting team in our next phase of growth. This is a high-visibility position that will play an important role in researching and documenting a wide variety of complex technical accounting matters, supporting purchase accounting for an active M&A pipeline, and other related topics. You will collaborate closely with stakeholders throughout the Company to support the successful execution of key initiatives within the Finance organization. This role will report to the Director, Technical Accounting, who reports to the Sr. Director, Technical Accounting and M&A. The Sr. Director has responsibility for all technical accounting matters and leads Finance’s M&A process from diligence through integration.Â
What you get to do in this role:Â
Research and prepare technical accounting memos documenting the Company’s technical accounting issues and conclusions, supported by authoritative US GAAP guidance; support the presentation and resolution of the Company’s positions on critical accounting issues with internal leadership and external auditorsÂ
Monitor and assess new accounting pronouncements applicable to the Company; partner with stakeholders to analyze the impact and support implementationÂ
Key contributor throughout the M&A process, supporting pre-letter of intent review, financial diligence, purchase accounting, and valuation, as well as post-close accounting integrationÂ
Develop and apply deep technical knowledge in areas such as business combinations, investment accounting, goodwill and intangible asset impairment testing, accounting for share-based compensation programs, revenue accounting matters (e.g., payments to a customer, gross versus net), and hedge accounting, amongst a variety of other complex accounting areasÂ
Draft and review SEC disclosures on relevant technical accounting topicsÂ
Execute the quarterly and year-end close process for technical accounting matters, including preparation of journal entries, reconciliations, and SEC disclosure supportÂ
Be a trusted business partner and advisor to various stakeholders within Accounting, Finance, Legal, Corporate Development, and other cross-functional teamsÂ
Take initiative for process improvements to scale and optimize the technical accounting process, including the implementation of AI initiativesÂ
Contribute to the design, implementation, and maintenance of effective global accounting policies, processes, procedures, and internal controlsÂ
Serve as a day-to-day technical accounting contact for external auditors, supporting resolution of complex accounting mattersÂ
Support special projects and workflow process improvementsÂ
Involvement in the SEC reporting process to help ensure the financial statements are in compliance with US GAAPÂ
Qualifications
To be successful in this role you have:Â
Total experience of minimum 6 years, including Big Four public accounting experience and/or technical accounting experience at a public companyÂ
BS/BA degree in Finance or Accounting and active CPA license is requiredÂ
Manager role in a Big Four public accounting firm and/or technical accounting role at a public companyÂ
Positive, service-oriented attitude, highly motivated to learn and to make an impact within the organizationÂ
Experience mentoring and reviewing the work of junior team members; prior team leadership experience is a plusÂ
Strong technical accounting background with a knowledge of US GAAP, SEC reporting standards, and SOX 404, as well as experience performing technical research and preparing technical accounting memosÂ
Excellent verbal/written communication and presentation skillsÂ
Relationship builder across all levels of the organizationÂ
Demonstrated ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders (Finance, Legal, Corporate Development) on technical accounting positions without direct authorityÂ
Strong organizational skills to manage numerous workstreams at once and complete work timelyÂ
Self-starter and a great team memberÂ
Proactive approach to identifying root causes and implementing durable solutions, including escalation when appropriateÂ
Ability to be flexible and work analytically in a dynamic environmentÂ
Meticulous and superior attention to detailÂ
Strong Excel knowledgeÂ
Familiarity with emerging AI tools for accounting automation is valuedÂ
Experience with SAP or other large ERP systems is a plusÂ
