Summary:

The Senior Accountant performs advanced general ledger accounting, financial analysis, and financial reporting in support of accurate and timely month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities. The position prepares and reviews journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, fixed-asset, lease, investment, and revenue-recognition activity; investigates variances and complex accounting issues; and prepares financial statements and management reports in accordance with U.S. GAAP and company policy. The role also partners with project and operational teams to improve project setup, cash flow, contract closeout, internal controls, audit readiness, and accounting-process efficiency.

Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform advanced general ledger accounting, including journal entries, subsidiary-ledger and bank reconciliations, accruals and reversals, and accounting for fixed assets, leases, investments, and revenue recognition in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
  • Analyze project-level and financial-statement results and communicate significant trends, variances, risks, and recommended follow-up to management.
  • Participate in project setup to support appropriate accounting treatment, revenue recognition, billing, and reporting.
  • Investigate and resolve unreconciled items, unusual balances, and inconsistencies in general ledger and subsidiary records.
  • Reconcile general ledger and project-ledger activity and coordinate corrections with responsible stakeholders.
  • Perform unbilled-receivable analysis and recommend actions that support cash flow and contract closeout.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, schedules, and management reports.
  • Research complex accounting matters and document conclusions in accordance with U.S. GAAP and company accounting policies.
  • Maintain and improve accounting procedures and internal controls that support the integrity, completeness, and reliability of financial data and processes.
  • Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation and respond to authorized audit requests.
  • Evaluate and support implementation of applicable accounting pronouncements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve accounting efficiency, data quality, and process effectiveness.
  • Perform other duties consistent with the position’s accounting purpose and level.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: (To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible accounting experience involving general ledger accounting, reconciliations, financial reporting, and financial analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience applying U.S. GAAP to accounting transactions and issue resolution.
  • Experience preparing journal entries, account reconciliations, financial statements, and audit-support schedules.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and experience using an enterprise accounting or ERP system.
  • Successfully pass background and drug-screening requirements.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in government contracting or project-based accounting.
  • Public accounting experience.
  • Experience applying ASC 606 and ASC 842.
  • Active CPA license, CPA candidate status, or progress toward CPA eligibility.
  • Experience with Deltek Costpoint, BNA, LeaseAccelerator, or comparable systems.
  • Experience with unbilled analysis, project setup, contract closeout, or revenue recognition in a federal contractor environment.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP, general ledger accounting, financial statements, account reconciliation, accrual accounting, internal controls, revenue recognition, fixed assets, leases, investments, and audit support.
  • Advanced Excel, financial analysis, journal-entry preparation, account reconciliation, technical accounting research, financial-statement preparation, management reporting, variance analysis, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to synthesize complex financial information, identify root causes, develop supported accounting conclusions, manage multiple deadlines, recognize control concerns, explain accounting matters clearly, and escalate material issues appropriately.
