This 12-week, in-person summer opportunity in Louisville, Kentucky provides a structured environment for meaningful actuarial project work, professional development, and connection to Humana’s actuarial community. Participants will work alongside actuarial professionals, gain exposure to the healthcare business, and strengthen the analytical, communication, and business skills needed for a future career in actuarial science.
Program Details
Location: Louisville, Kentucky; housing stipend provided
Duration: May 24 – August 13, 2027
Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday
Eligibility: Open to students currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate programs
Key Responsibilities:
Collect, validate, and analyze data related to product development, pricing, reserving, financial reporting, and other actuarial functions
Support the preparation and review of experience reports, rate analyses, and other actuarial deliverables
Identify trends, evaluate results, and develop recommendations based on data insights
Clearly document analyses, assumptions, data sources, and findings for business stakeholders
Collaborate with actuarial teams and business partners to support enterprise-wide initiatives related to growth, profitability, affordability, and risk management
Participate in onboarding, professional development activities, networking events, and engagement opportunities
Present project work, findings, and recommendations to team members and leaders

Required Qualifications
Current full-time undergraduate or graduate student majoring in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a closely related field
Must be available to work full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, from May 24 – August 13, 2027
Must be able to work in-person in Louisville, Kentucky for the duration of the internship
Must not require sponsorship to work in the United States now or in the future
Demonstrated interest in pursuing a career as an actuary
Preferred Qualifications
Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
Strong analytical aptitude with experience or coursework involving data analysis, spreadsheets, statistical concepts, programming, or business analysis
Completion of multiple Society of Actuaries exams
Successful completion of and/or scheduled to sit for at least one Society of Actuaries exam
Prior internship, work, research, or project experience in an actuarial, analytical, mathematical, statistical, financial, or related role
Demonstrated leadership experience through student organizations, work, or volunteer roles
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and independently
Strong attention to detail, intellectual curiosity, and willingness to learn
Internship Program Highlights:
Interns can expect a well-rounded 12-week experience designed to build actuarial knowledge, business understanding, professional skills, and connections across Humana. The program includes:
Comprehensive onboarding and orientation to help participants learn about Humana, the internship structure, the actuarial community, and their assigned team
Placement on an actuarial team with opportunities to apply classroom knowledge, gain hands-on exposure, and support meaningful projects aligned to Humana’s mission and business priorities
Exposure to actuarial work that may support areas such as pricing, reserving, forecasting, financial reporting, product development, experience analysis, and risk management
Professional development sessions, leadership engagement, and workshops designed to strengthen analytical, communication, business, and career skills
A strong support network that may include direct leaders, mentors, peers, and members of Humana’s broader actuarial community
Learning, training, and development opportunities that support actuarial growth and professional development
Opportunities to participate in intern engagement activities, which may include networking, social events, volunteering, and other peer-led activities
Access to Humana’s Network Resource Groups, which help foster connection, community, and inclusion across the organization
Housing stipend provided
Consideration for part-time roles following the internship

The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting.
