CAD Operator/Draftsman

Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking a CAD Drafter in Las Cruces, New Mexico at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) White Sands Complex (WSC) to support Space Network operations. This position supports NASA programs which integrates with state-of-art ground station communications equipment. You’ll use your technical knowledge to assist the WSC in developing technical documentation to support multiple projects.  

Peraton is the prime contractor for NASA at the White Sands Complex (WSC) located near Las Cruces, New Mexico. Operating here are two functional identical satellite ground terminals: The White Sands Ground Terminal and the Second TDRSS Ground Terminal. These grounds terminals ensure uninterrupted communications between various ground terminals, NASA’s orbiting constellation of Tracking and Data Relay Satellites (TDRS), customer spacecraft (satellites) and the computer systems which support such spacecraft.  WSC serves as an interface for distributing satellite data to control centers and scientist who then use the daily influx of data to expand our ever-growing knowledge of the earth and the universe.

This position will be responsible for:

• Work closely with design originators, preparing drawings of unusual, complex, or original designs which require a high degree of precision within the disciplines of Civil, Mechanical, Electronics, and Electro-Mechanical.
• Performs unusually difficult assignments requiring considerable initiative, resourcefulness, and drafting expertise.
• Assures that anticipated problems in manufacture, assembly, installation, and operation are resolved by the drawings produced.
• Exercises independent judgment in selecting and interpreting data based on a knowledge of the design intent. Although working primarily as a drafter, may occasionally serve within project teams to provide advice and guidance required to completion.
• Coordinates work assignments with Document Technical Publisher personal. Generally working in 2D with occasional perspective drawings required.
• May be assigned work on other projects/activities as required.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• High School diploma (or equivalent) and 6+ years of experience and specialized training.
• Proficient in latest AutoCAD software.
• General proficiency in Microsoft Office Visio graphics software.
• Experience with Microsoft Office (e.g. Word, PowerPoint, and Excel).
• Security clearance - this position requires the candidate to be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
• You must be a US Citizen and show proof of citizenship.
• Must be able to maintain ability to access government worksite. 

Desired Qualifications

• Proficiency in AutoLISP.
• Previous experience with the NASA Space Network.
• Experience with test and integration of new technologies from either military or industry.
• The ability to work well under pressure.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.

Target Salary Range

The rate / range per hour below represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
